Just saw a story on CNN that says the IRS is investigating 61 non-profits for violation of the IRC. Apparently, they cannot endorse political candidates because of their non-profit status under section 501C-3. Most of the 61 groups are churches. If they are found to have violated this code section, they are going to have tremendouse tax bills. Rod Parsley of World Harvest Church in Ohio was one of the pastors they interviewed ("endorsing" Bush). Also, interviewed a black pastor, but I didn't get his name. They showed him "endorsing" John Edwards (during the primaries, I guess). |

That 501C-3 status is a Satanic trap. |

The IRS does need to get all of these churchs who infringe on the political arena in their capacity as non-profit organizations. I'm sure the Christian Right will be in the forefront when it comes to school prayer legislation and they need to either stay out of it, or lose their tax exempt status. |

Would Jesus forbid his Ministers to tell his Flock how to vote? |

Although I reject his being the son of God, I do think Jesus was a cool guy, a visionary, a mystic, and a man of the people. I think he would tell his ministers to tell their flocks to vote their consciences. I don't think he would endorse the waging of war. I do think he'd be about forgiving sinners who loved one another. |

Lawchic, This is an example of just how demonic the Bush Adminstration really is. Are you going to tell me that THESE are the ONLY religious organizations that have actively promoted/support one political candidate/platform? This is NOTHING BUT political retribution. Cynique, If JESUS is NOT the SON of GOD, why should we give a f*<% what he had to say? |

ABM, I can't believe you'd ask that stupid question. Unless, of course, you think humanity should dismiss anything any wise man ever had to say. Jesus preached a universal message of love, echoing what his counterparts in all the other major religions preached. |

ABM: They are going after churches that supported Bush too. Apparently, the Bush campaign was walking a very fine line by asking church officials to do the following: send them copies of their church directory, call their pro-Bush members and encourage them to go vote; driving pro-Bush voters tot he polls. There were a number of other activities that fell into the category of being legal, but were very close to the line. Wish I could remember what else they were asking these churches to do, but it escapes me now. |

Millions and millions of people throughout the world do not believe that Jesus Christ was not the son of God, Abm, including the Unitarian Church right here in America. You sound like of of those arrogant Fundamentalist from the religious right who insist that our way is the only way. |

Lawchic, There are just pretending to be going after Bush's supporters as a diversion tactic. Because they can't appear to the media to be targeting only Bush's detractors. Wait to see who does and does not have their tax status overturned. THAT will tale the tale. I predict they'll wait until the story has lost luster then let Bush's friends off the hook and punish those who backed Kerry. |

Cynique, Bush is not GOD, JESUS or the HOLY GHOST. Heck. He wouldn't even qualify as a decent evangelist. At best, Bush is just of a recent vintage of false prophets that the Bible warned us of. So whatever Bush does or doesn't do has ZERO affect on my faith. |

And for the very same reasons, whatever you say or do has zero effect on my beliefs. So this is a subject we should leave alone. |

Interesting topic. I attended my grandmother's funeral recently and was surprised to when the usher handed out fans with "I'm a fan of [Incumbent Congresswoman]!" on them. I thought that had to be a violation of their 501 (c) (3) status. Glad to have found these boards today. A smart, entertaining bunch you all are! |
