Have any of you (or your relatives) ever been to Macon, Georgia? We're thinking of getting a business there and I've never been there before. Tell me what you think about it or what you've heard about it. I do plan on visiting there in a few weeks, but I'm trying to get as much info on it as possible. I like Atlanta, but real estate here is EXPENSIVE and getting more so!

You're SERIOUSLY thinking about starting a business in a town that you've never visited?

We'll be visiting there sometimes in the next month. I like to completely research a place before a move, including getting other people's opinion on the place before moving there. My husband's business partner has a business there and he says it's nice, but he's ALWAYS working and never out in town, so I can't completely take his word on what the town's like.

My husband wants to be on his own (business-wise) and can't really afford it in Atlanta. Many businessmen do the same: purchase their own business in a much cheaper town and save the profits to start a business in a more expensive town. It's one reason you're finding more Asians in tiny towns in the south. One boyfriend of mine YEARS ago had a grocery store near Utica, MS. He didn't even take the time to research the place before moving there. But he stayed 6 years before selling it and buying a much larger business in Birmingham.

You just have to take a leap of faith sometimes.

Business wise, I don't think there will be a problem in Macon for my husband......but it's day to day living for my son and I that I'm more concerned about. We'll have to go the libraries and the parks and drive around town. My son will have to go to daycare and someday have activities to go to. And of course there must be more than one mall.
