Re: Poetree and po' me

In case you have not read the newsletter for this website, I am now the "moderator" for this poetry board. This introduction should not come off as reminiscent of the infamous speech in "48 Hours" which taunted "there's a new Sheriff in town". Rather, I find it necessary due to recent board postings that now fall under my liberal scrutiny.

Earlier there was a poem posted that somehow imploded into a diatribe that became personal. It has now been brought to my attention that I should say something to individuals who maliciously attack each other on this board.

So I am saying it: stomp out the personal attacks or be stamped as unwelcome here. Everyone one and their mother know about who has issues with whom. So if you know you don’t quite click with someone, check yourself to be sure that you are not in attack mode when responding to particular individuals poetry or postings.

Everyone has the right to speak his or her mind “within reason”! No one has the right to write what he or she pleases in a public without censoring. If you are not sure about it then simply don’t write it. If you want to criticize someone’s work, then don’t revert to slanderous or incendiary remarks.

I am not here to side with anyone. I am here as a moderator, so I should keep the perspective of this board in moderation. And I do not care for censorship, but on the other hand offensive behavior is just that. It is not the subject matter that normally causes ire; it is the lack of tact in delivery. Vulgarity will initiate a response.

One last thing...please do not expound to me what Thumper does on his discussion board. I have gotten to know Troy and Thumper. They seem to trust my judgment, though they may not agree with it always. I happen to feel the same way about them.

We should not be interested in making this board reflective of our “vision” of poetry. We should be determined to listen to poets that want to share their voice. We should be determined to provide honest, and preferably constructive criticism from anyone who reads our poems.

I am open to suggestions; just don’t trip if I don’t follow them. This is not my Poetree Board! It is belongs to us. It is up to us to keep its content in check.

Please feel free to email me or just post responses.

Rondall, I appreciate the post. But what "exactly" are you saying? It's not clear AT all.

I liked ABM's poem. Only a few were upset that it might be a poem honoring a person who was ejected and banned from this board about 6 months ago.

When some people did mention her name, the person named Curious started complaining that her name was mentioned and acting as though it should be censored from even being mentioned.

The author has a web page on this site and has a new poetry book out, however. This is the United States of America. At some point, this person's name might be mentioned in passing or an admirer (like ABM) might even write a poem.

I think you've been doing a wonderful job moderating the board and I haven't seen a single thing wrong with that other thread with the Kola poem. I think everybody got to put in their 2 cents, good or bad, and the thread is now dead.

I fear that this entire board is becoming haunted in a very ugly and immature way by some people's refusal to let go of old controversies and pet peeves.

I truly hope you aren't saying that ABM's poem shouldn't have been posted just because some people immediately thought it was an homage to Kola Boof??

As for the comments Cynique and Sister Shiree made in attacking ABM, that's old hat. We can just agree to disagree and go on with things.

BTW Rondall. When are you going to grace us with another one of your own pieces of mind candy? I think that would be refreshing and take the load off, brothaman.

Is this really America? I can't tell. I'm not sure what Rondall has in mind, but it already sounds like he's about to piss somebody off. I for one will try not to offend anyone... Especially someone with the power to BAN ME FROM THE BOARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now you're thinking, is this a dare? Should we ban him for speaking his peace even though he really didn't direct it at anyone. Maybe we should shun him for daring to be shunned. Maybe we should ban him for daring to be banned. Maybe we should ban him for getting ready to offend someone that should have been banned already but since he drew first blood in MY righteous dominion I have to ban the pepetrator before he gets out of hand...Yeah....make him an example.

Sorry, I will behave. I only hope that ABM stays out of trouble. I get a kick out of reading his poetry and his posts. Some of his poetry may not be the most popular on the board, however, it has been the most controversial, lately. Hopefully he or one of his poetry board counterparts will inspire my pen. I'm calling all of you out. Someone create something quickly. The banter of late has bored me to the depths of my soul.

Nobody ever said this board operated as a democracy. But you do have a choice. You can edit yourself or - you can get your ass kicked off. LOL

LOL

This is what I am talking about, open dialogue. By the by, you need to read my posting a little bit more careful. I thought ABM's homage was funny. I was addressing the fulminating personal attacks on character between individuals.

ABM responded to something that he took personal. Sis. Shiree responded to something that she read into as an attack. THAT stuff is not necessary.

And Cynique, just plain ole doesn't care for the denigration of women in literature. Trust me, I agree with this viewpoint completely. But I still respect ABM's right to write his side also.

I would no more "ban" someone from this board than I would change my name to "Bif" and wear my sweater around my neck. You would have to reach deep in your bag to offend me and even then I would extend you a chance to explain yourself.

ABM is ABM. A Brotha Rhymes is A Brotha Rhymes. And of course Lambd, I 've got nothing but love fo' ya. If misconstrued my posting as a threat, I apologize. I want everybody to feel free to post whatever. Request for weaves, demands for pleather mini-skirts, whatever.

If this is what the board wants and it's about some poetry, then so be it. Thanks for shouting back at me about your concerns. It's your house, I am just passing through.

Peace

P.S. A Brotha Rhymes: I know it has been a while for me to post a poem. I have been focused on learning to get better at my expression. I will have something up here shortly.
