I gotch you on this one. I have had this CD for years. I have had a couple of listening parties where we sit around around just groove to this joint for a couple of hours.

It is also painfully points out at times that many outstanding poets were never meant to be performers. Some of their readings tend to monotone and bromidic. But over all the CD is the best poetry compilation that I have ever come across. All Black, all beautiful...

Some of my favorites include:
If We Must Die / Claude McKay
Ma Rainey / Sterling A. Brown
Dahomey / Audre Lorde
Wounded in the House of a Friend / Sonia Sanchez
A Poem for Players / Al Young
Muhammad Ali at the Ringside, 1985 / Wole Soyinka
Hard Rock Returns to Prison from the Hospital for the Criminal Insane / Etheridge Knight
The Idea of Ancestry / Etheridge Knight
Cruelty /Lucy (Pt. 6) / Lucille Clifton
Venus's-Flytraps / Yusef Komunuakaa
and
Poem for Magic / Quincy Troupe

I agree with you. This CD is a must have.
