Email Kalamu Ya Salaam at kalamu@aol.com or join his listserv. Where in Massachusetts do you live? Also don't reject the idea of starting your own club.

Cedric. Look in your local papers and see who holds poetry readings--though you should understand that most of them are attended by adults and thus your son might be exposed to adult themed material. See if there are any groups on the web in the area.

It sounds to me like your son should maybe go to his high school, find a friendly English teacher or Poetry lover, and have them start a poetry club there. In social situations we need to try to mix with our emotional and chronological peers.

Then he can develop his talent under a mentor. Perhaps there is a well known poet locally that might do this (though most of them are notoriously shy and back away from it) One may know of a workshop he can attend.

Oh, if if all other things fail, get on the Kalamu listserv and post a listing calling for formation of a poetry club in your area.

Unfortunately I don't know of any poets or poetry clubs in Salem. There was a group called The Darkroom Collective in Boston--I don't know how far you are from there or if they are still viable.
