ok, i'm just having fun here so noone get too uptight about this. but back in the early 80's light skinned brothers had mad love and i think it sort of disappeared after al b. sure's second cd...well cassette tape. anyways i sort of felt cheated because i never got to experience that artificial love and having girls like me just because i was light and for no other reason. what will it take for us to get that spot back? perhaps the light skinned women can answer that because they seem to have that corner stone marketed. and i'm not really asking for me, cause i went to school with 95% white people, so even though i barely have ice-t beat, i was still the darkest. i think all it will take is another good al b. sure cd, to right the wrong... don't you?

I don't know anyone who thought Al b. was cute. I'm sure there are some who did think he was cute, but I've never met them, or perhaps they just kept that secret. The truth is he's fat and has a unibrow and is/was hardly cute.

I personally don't get it. If someone's ugly, they're ugly. If someone like Al B. ONLY because of his skin color, I hope they marry him and have a lot of ugly babies with him.

Exactly, Reneta. That's exactly what I meant but I chose to use less words.

I don't know bruce leroy.

Prince and Michael Jackson? Well, you'd have to get a good critique from someone else. I don't dig girls. I never did like those wig/eyeliner/lipstick wearing kinds. EEEEEEWWWWW

That reminds me.....

is the effeminate look in for light skinned boys? My son is light skinned, and I hear so OFTEN "you should let his hair grow long", or "he would be so pretty if you grow his hair DOWN HIS BACK". I'm too courteous to curse them out.

What's with this feminizing boys about? My son is 16 months old and has had a haircut to get rid of the length to his hair, but as soon as he can sit still, he's getting it cut short.

IF YOU WANT A GIRL, HAVE A DAUGHTER!

(Sorry, just had to get that off my chest!)

I think hip-hop, especially gangsta/thug H-H, killed it for lightskinned singers. H-H videos helped popularize the prevalent, browner, darker look of Black men.

And when the dark Wesley Snipes character punked the lightskinned foks (Allen Payne, Christopher Williams, Michael Michelle) in 1991's New Jack City (except for Ice-T), it was clear the ascendency of the authentic brothaman look was in fulleffect.

Biggy Smalls with a little help from his high-yellow wife Faith Evans is really who turned things around, and made big fat black men the flava of the year. I think things have evened out off now. Of course there are Terrance Howard and Shemar Moore and all of those supporting players on the various TV comedies and dramas. Al DeBarge was the consummate fione light guy back in the 80s.

But what y'all are overlooking is the type of roles that are traditionally given to dark-skinned men in copmparison to those given to the lighter brothers. Yes, Shemar & Terrence play the gangster when offered but they're also given the roles of loving husbands and intelligent men. On the other hand, Wesley was always the basketball dribbling, thugged out hustler or the gun toting maniac or the evil, spiteful, jealous fool:
"I don't like you anyway; you 'pretty' muthafucka!" .... Since dark-skinned guys are usually chosen to play mean, ignorant, childlike men, how have they "won?" If anything, they are the ones getting punked.

Oh come on, nowadays, darker-skinned guys get just as many positive roles as lighter ones, if not more. Especially on TV. They are doctors, lawyers, cops and romantic leads.e.g. Grey's anatomy. We are not talking about the 1990s. We are talking about 2006!

i don't like how that one light skinned dude always...well..atleast 90% of time plays a sell-out. he was on tales from the hood, get on the bus, and some other stuff i can't remember right now, but he's always playing a sell-out type of role. and light skinned guys also have those roles where there good guys who get played in the end, like in brown sugar. but we're still making a comeback...lol... no..awwww so what if where not.

Yeah! What is his name? My sister used to think that Al B. Sure was the FINEST guy in history. Next to Ralph Tresvant from New Edition. My sister being dark-skinned herself despises dark-skinned guys. I guess I come from a family that puts alot of emphasis on skin color.

And on top of that, she lets Drunk White Men stumble over to her house looking for her?

Your sister needs a foot up her ass.

*Sigh*

I know, I know. I shouldn't be back in here.
