What exactly is the difference between country and ghetto? I always thought I was ghetto, but my husband says I'm actually country.

I'm loud and can break windows with my laugh. I'm also very opinionated and always holding a baby.

Which am I?

He pointed out that I also wear shoes that show my feet most of the time (sandals, slides), even in the wintertime.

The word "Ghetto" means URBAN, projects, poverty. The city.

Country means just that. Out in the country. Southern accent, barefoot and not "city-fied".

Get a dictionary.

I mean as far as "attitude" goes. I've met "country" girls that I know for a FACT were GHETTO. I've lived in both, and live in an urban area now, so...

Renata,

You're probably BOTH. But don't worry. Neither of those are exactly compliments. So it doesn't really matter which of those he means.

Hahahaha!!!

country isn't that bad, i was stationed in texas and louisisa and people around there where both i guess, especially louisiana. but you have never heard anyone say "man that car is country as hell" ...but i'm quite sure you have heard someone say that about something being ghetto.

Ghetto people tend to be slick and street smart, but with down-home country folks what you see is what you get, which usually is not very sophisticated.

I don't think that you would see " a charming person of keen intellect and refinement" if you looked up either one of those things.:-)While it is true that both are pretty much taken as synonymous with Ignorant Simpleton, country is assumed to be naive while ghetto is assumed to be busy keepin' it real stupid.

Well, I'm not street smart, that's for sure. And I'm neither ignorant nor a simpleton. Perhaps somewhat naive. Mostly just loud. And regardless of what you read here, I'm know to use "southern grammar" when I'm angry, but rarely at other times.

I sho do dat. LOL

When I think "country", I seem to think of barefoot, miu miu wearing, cornbread and collard eating folks talking loudly.

To Renata:I certainly did not mean to imply that I believe you to be an ignorant simpleton, and I'm pretty confident that your husband didn't either. There is the ridiculous extreme, which is that overall wearing, brogan shining, hog slinging fellow that is dumber than a bag of nails and that 'hip, slick and cool' fellow who's only skills seems to be proficiency in thievery and slinging nickle bags on the corner with his pants down around his knees, also dumber than a bag of nails. When people compare you to one or the other, they are merely saying that you display characteristics consistant with those observed in one of the ridiculous extremes, not that you are the living embodiment of it.:-)

That reminds me. I was once on the train, and some drunk guy (AT LEAST 65) sat next to me and started trying to 'pick me up'. I found it so ridiculous, I just laughed. And laughed more until I just couldn't help myself. LOUDLY!

Did he really think he could have ME, at his age and in his condition? He got off at the next stop. I don't know if he was embarrassed or scared.
