I am studying Eugenics in my science class and I was wondering should black ppl practice Eugenics. For those that don't know. Eugenics is the method of improving certain races by a selection of parents based on their inherited qualities. Eugenics was already practiced on African Americans during the slave era. Masters would select the biggest,strongest, and healthier females and would make them breed. Therefore, they would produce big,strong,heathy children for work. I believe that we African Americans are already a strong ppl physically, and mentally. However, we could become stronger if we practiced Eugenics. How do you feel? |

People have been practicing "eugenics" for as long as there have been humans.
We pick this mate because he or she is employed and has excellent skills or educational background.
We pick that certain guy because he is cool and together. Plus he has a sexy hairy chest and he brangs big thangs (if you know what I mean).
Some men like short women. Some like tall.
Some will only date thug or thugette.
Whatever. Different strokes for different folks. |

What you're referring to is random sexual selection, which happens with all animals. Eugenics is "artificial" or planned sexual selection by a breeding population. I definitely think that blacks should think seriously about eugenics because 1) there is a ton of scientific evidence that suggests that intelligence is largely genetic and 2) as Roxies hinted, EVERYONE ELSE (not just whites) WILL BE THINKING (and acting) EUGENICLY IN THE NEAR FUTURE. |

No, what you all are talking about is not eugenics. "Eugeneics" does not refer to the private mating and other decisions made by private individuals, but the State sponsored active (e.g., forced sterilization, mass murder) and passive (e.g., "encouraging" some folks to marry) actions to control population outcomes based on faulty (at best) science.
Serenasailor, if you are truly studying this, then you must be aware of such resources as the Image Archive of the American Eugenics Movement http://www.eugenicsarchive.org/eugenics/. Folks are fooling themselves if you think this is a "good strategy for Black people to practice." It will not be for us to decide to practice--It will be practiced on us. |

Maybe I'm not explaining myself too well. Let's go to the dictionary definition of eugenics...

What you described in your first post were individual mating choices that people make based on personal preference. Eugenics, on the other hand, is about making mating choices specifically to improve the genetics of a population. It's clearly not something that "everybody does." |

My only interest in eugenics is voluntary selective breeding. I most definitely don't support forced sterilization, mass murder, or any other form of coercion. Selective human breeding does not necessarily involve the state, and in my opinion would be best accomplished through voluntary associations of invididuals, such as churches or religious organizations.
Folks are fooling themselves if you think this is a "good strategy for Black people to practice." It will not be for us to decide to practice--It will be practiced on us.
There's a huge difference between voluntary selective breeding, which falls under the category of "positive" eugenics, and forced sterilization (or any other form of reproductive coercion), which is a form of "negative" eugenics. The two schools of thought, though both called "eugenics," are really quite distinct. I definitely do not support any form of negative eugenics. If we ever get to the point where people are attempting negative eugenics on us, we will effectively be at war. |

Read Dorothy Roberts' book "Killing the Black Body." Consider the linkages between receipt of welfare and Norplant, or the disparities in out-of-home placement of Black kids. Then tell me that State sponsored eugenics programs are not happening. |

Eugenics is a very slippery slope. But the hard questions have to be asked. What is the eventuality of these state-sponsored programs? Will their end result play a role in deterring the genocide that black-on-black crime is inflicting on the race? |

I think you mean so "HIS" children will have fair skin and straight hair. Since black men are twice as likely to date and marry interracially than black women. GET IT RIGHT!! |
