The girl from Family Matters, the little sister who mysteriously disappeared one season is gonna be on Oprah tomorrow talking about her biggest mistake. It's becoming the porn star Crave. Should be interesting

I read an interview she did a long time ago. According to her, she was the sole breadwinner in her family (there was no father in the family), and she felt so bad that she wasn't able to provide for them like she did before. That's a sad state to be in (if that's true).

It WAS true. They featured on a program on Bravo or A&E (can't remember which) about former child actors and their lives after show business. She admitted that she had to do a porn just to get money. They even showed footage of the video. It WAS sad.

If this person was as early as a PRETEEN made to be the sole/primary breadwinner of her family, then there should be scant surprise that she'd resort to pornography.

Her parents (and to a lesser degree, her other kin, agents, managers, advisors, etc.) really outtah be ASHAMED of themselves.

I watched the interview yesterday. She didn't mention anything about being the breadwinner for her family, she just said she couldn't afford the "stuff" she used to, therefore, she became depressed, began to drink/do drugs and made some terrible choices. Even Oprah suggested there are many other career choices besides the "adult industry". I don't feel sorry for her--not one bit.

Saw the interview. (Her hair looked great, she's a pretty girl, and Oprah called her attractive...hmm is she colorstruck haha)

But read a lot about her too. She's done more than one scene too! I have a friend who's a porn junkie! He's seen all her stuff, cuz she did stuff with guys too.

Her trust fund was raided to pay off her family's bankrupcy. I feel sorry for and for other people who might even willingly enter the porn industry because they think they can "beat" the system. They can't. I feel sorry that they can't see what porn really is and what it does to the women in it.

But I don't think she wanted pity or sympathy. Just to warn others, and of course get some pub to revive her career. She made a dumb mistake, but that doesn't have to define the rest of her life, so I wish her luck. She can always write a tell all/cautionary tale. *wink*

Moonsigns,
I didn't see the Oprah show. My "breadwinner" comment was based on what I'd read above.

And I don't know enuff of anything about what she did or what happened to her to decide whether or not I should feel sorry for her.

But if she VOLUNTARILY engaged in pornography, regardless of WHY she elected to engage in such, I'd probably be inclined to agree with you.

Metasmith,
I don't have a law degree. But I can't help wondering why and how was a CHILD'S trustfund raided to satisfy debts incurred by her parents?

Whatthehell kinda bankruptcy attorney did THEY have?

Didn't she also say that she had low esteem and was afraid her boyfriend would leave her if she didn't come up with money to maintain their upscale lifestyle.

ABM, I don't know anything about the law, but it's been done before.

Gary Coleman's parents took all of his money. An Olympic Romanian American gymnast's (I think her name is Dominique Moceanu, but I'm not sure) parents took all of her money, opened businesses for themselves, and wouldn't give her any of it when she turned 18.

Another kid (he played the youngest child on that Tim Allen show) had his parents take all of his money, and then they kicked him out at about age 16 when the show was canceled. They said they're not having people who weren't working sitting around their home all day. Both parents, btw, were unemployed (LOL). He got emancipated, and sued for his money back. He won.

That Home Alone kid got emancipated from his parents because they had spent most of his money, and were fighting over the little that was left. He got emancipated, and took his money with him. That was smart of him.

I know parents got bills and everything, but I say if you work for it, it's yours.

Renata,

I'm familiar with what you describe. But all those cases involved the PARENTS willfully misusing their children earning for their own interests. That's different from liquidating a child's trustfund to pay off his/her parents past debts.

A HUGE part of why a trustfund is establised is for the purpose of PROTECTING the money/property of its beneficiary.

Thus, I DOUBT there are many federal/state statues that would REQUIRE a minor child to satisfy the terms of a bankrupcy filed by his/her parents.

So, while I agree it is possible this young lady was mistreated similarly to those you recount, it could ONLY have occurred if her parent(s) (guardian/management/counsel) misused and failed her.

And there may have been hardly - or NEVER - any trustfund to begin with.
