Mrs_hart --

Ok. What's your take on Hillary Clinton's latest statements yesterday about how the current Republican-led House of Representatives is being run like a "plantation". What do you think she was trying to infer, and should her response have been any different? Any thoughts?

I was embarassed for Hillary. How patronizing can you get? That plantation remark spoken in her flat nasal midwestern accent went over like a turd in the punch bowl. She better hire a new PR man.

Yeah, she kind of fell into the trap, even as smart a woman as she is.

Interesting. However, I saw nothing wrong with her remarks. Congress is run like a plantation. I personally did not see it as a “racist” comment as many white conservatives are attempting to make it out to be. The mechanics of shameless Republican nepotism, cronyism, graft and lobbyist prostitution, political back door intrigue and stifling of legislation and polices that they do not agree with, is rampant! This is not a personal opinion nor conjecture but one of documented fact.

What makes it ironic is the fact that white conservatives are leading the parade of indignation at Hillary’s comments. These are the exact same white conservatives who defended and attempted to rationalize (openly and behind closed doors) the comments Trent Lott made about Strong Thurmond. The same remarks (a congressional plantation) was made by Newt Gingrich when the Democrats controlled congress. Why the double standard now? I'm not trying to play the race card card but you can’t have it both ways.

Ntfs --

It's not racism that's the issue, it's the perspective of opportunistic exploitation that had ruffled a few feathers. No one gives a real damn about the plantation, but they care a helluva lot about who's picking the cotton.

Interesting, Ntfs -
Your comments mirror, almost verbatim, the comments Rev. Al Sharpton made yesterday in defense of Hillary. Rev. Al made note that Hillary's comment was in direct response to a question she was asked at his MLK Day event and that when taken in context, were neither racist nor patronizing, but earnest and heartfelt. As well, he was exceptionally indignant that the media and Hillary's opponents have taken them out of context and are now exploiting the issue.

I saw a clip of the actual event and the audience response to Hillary's histrionics was luke warm. Some even snickered. She acted in the moment, but it's always a slippery slope when white folks start injecting the word "plantation" into their outbursts in front of a black audience. Not a good sound byte. Al Sharpton was left with no choice but to do damage control. Next week it will all be forgotten.

I'm afraid that she is not different from the rest. She has voted along with conservatives on a number of issues that does not bode well for our society.

Giving the opposing party and Mr. Bush so much power doesn't say very much for her.

I feel that the next president will be another republican. Democrats are too deep in the pockets of those on K Street. She is among them.

The plantation comment was self-serving. If she believes as such, maybe she had better stop serving the master!

While there is truth to what she said, I thought it was insulting because I feel her motives were not genuine.

Tonya:

I totally agree, Ntfs_encryption. Let's face it, Hillary is just not a good speaker/speech giver. (She's the opposite of her husband.) I think that's what the hubbub's about. She's not a charismatic speaker.

The Jackson family was a unique bunch. The father "Papa Joe" thought that the families noses were to wide so he made them all get a nose job. He thought that their skin was to dark. So he made them bleach their skin. So now I guess he thought that his grandchildren would be to black so he made them all intermarry with other races. SHAME ON THEM!!

That was a common know fact. My sister works for a Plastic surgeaon here in Santa Monica, Ca. She actually met the doctor that performed Michael Jacksons surgery.
