Make sure you take the time to watch this historical series on PBS. Check your area for time listing. And please make sure you pass the word to all those you know so that they will hopefully watch this four part documentary on American slavery.

NOTE: This program will premiere nationally on February 9, 2005. Local broadcast information will not be available until two weeks before that date.

It already premiered nationally before. I saw it on PBS about year ago. Loved it, and would love to see it again.

This shows what things slaves brought to this nation desptite being in a perpetual nightmare. And it proved that skin color and racial bias existed in america as far back as the 16oo's.

THIS program should be shown in schools, NOT "Roots".:-)

I love that documentary. I am trying to get a tape of it. However, I was a little disappointed that they did not talk about the true hero's of slavery. Like Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, and Sojurner Truth.

--However, I was a little disappointed that they did not talk about the true hero's of slavery.Like Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, and Sojurner Truth.---

That's because they've been discussed ENOUGH. They are the subects of black history ALL THE TIME. But there is more to AA history and slavery than just those three individuals. This program focuses on the people and episodes of our history that are barely given the attention they deserve.
How do we know there weren't others who did what Harriet, fredderick and Sojurner had done in their time, or even BEFORE they were born, yet had been pushed into historical obscurity?

How do we not know that Harriet, Frederick, and sojurner(dare I say it)had their own images hyped and mythologized by historians, like other historical figures have been?

This program covers the elements that are ignored by the mainstream history mediums.

I'm looking forward. Can someone post a reminder? (I marked it on my calendar, but I'm terrible at keeping dates.) I'd really appreciate it.
