At face value, Roxie, one may have sensed your genuine desire to make a meaningful point in Kola's defense. Not that Kola has need of you nor any of her other consorts to defend her. Typically, she is quite adept all by her lonesome.
When we delve deeper however, particularly when taking into context the entire exchange between Kola and Shackspir, your interjection seems then to be ill-timed, out of place, totally uncalled for, and trivially childish at best. But assuming you really are an intelligent young woman with unlimited potential and promise, I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt.
Since I am experiencing a moment of writer's block with a few minutes of time on my hands, I figured, what the heck! Let me respond.
Now, our being "deluded", is debatable. Personally, I don't believe that every individual who I disagree with and whose beliefs are not my beliefs are "deluded". Our opinions just differ and what works in their world may not work in mine. But works for all of us is that we are each entitled to our own opinions and we have the priviledge of deciding on our own if we want to be dissuaded one way or the other. One could make the argument that you and all those who transcribe to Kola's way of thinking have been "deluded". And it would stand to reason that such would not be an opinion you or others might share.
As for "phonies", to some degree, aren't we all? With the exception of a select few and Kola, the majority of the posters on this board are "phony". We are faceless identities with self-selected monikers meant to keep our personal identities and private lives away from public scrutiny. I tend to believe that most do it to enjoy the exchanges while preserving the sanctity of our privacy, with only a select few, some we know and others we don't, are actually here to be purposely deceitful, dishonest, and/or malicious. And for those who may, what they actually gain would ultimately prove to be of little to no value.
While none of this had any bearing at all on Kola being compared to any other author, suffice to say, you deemed the comment worthy of consideration.
So, have I ever or would I liken Kola to Alice and Toni? NO. I have far too much respect for both of these women to ever trivialize their accomplishments in such a way. I do, however, believe in the POTENTIAL of Kola's "fictional" talents but feel her lack of humility and grace and her self-degrading behavior will only serve to keep her from attaining the level of accomplishment she desires for herself and that you wish for her. And that's MY opinion. Now, Roxie, you may well feel differently and you have that right, but I doubt hardly that anyone disagreeing with your view point who finds it necessary to resort to the same sandbox quips would actually be of any help to your cause, any proof of anything or even deemed to be of any true relevance.

Can somebody.. ANYBODY!!.. discredit what Kola says regarding colorism? I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I honestly would like to know why when so many people feel her message is offbeat, they NEVER attack it.. just her character.... But since most people who are drawn to Kola are lured by what she says about colorism, that doesn't make much sense. We could care less about most of the things that's being said about her. She is an author with a message that's been overlooked for too long. She addresses the concerns of the better half of our culture, who, too, have been overlooked for too long. Frankly, if she can do all that, we don't give a damn about what she did last night.... Which we know all about...

Well, Tonya, also known as the purveyor of the "short breeds must go slogan", surely you do not think that the best way to get a message across is to do it at the expense of the people you are trying to educate. Kola can never just talk about colorism, she has to elevate herself to the rank of HNIC of bad-mouthing people whose biggest crime is to be born with light skin. Along with the undercurrent of bitterness in her inflammatory rhetoric is the idea that she does not want reform, she wants vengence. She wants to punish mixed and light people for the sin of not adhering to her color chart. You and your "yellow woman" mantra are apparently so close to the situation that you can't see what a turn-off Kola's approach is to people who don't feel they have to be villainized because the rest of the world won't accomodate the grievances of people who despise them. Kola draws the line and designates her group as the good guys and the other groups as the bad guys, all of which just fuels the fire of conflict. It has ever been so that the messenger is at risk of overshadowing the message if said messenger is overbearing and self-righteous. |

Not to mention I (and all my girls) work in the Metro news media in D.C. and even the "dark side" of Kola is on the up and up. Just because the media does not cover her, does not mean she's not telling the truth.
People don't like her, because they've never seen this type of black woman before who stands firm for her beliefs and is so many different things. She celebrates her dirt right along with her flowers. LOL!
She's feared, because she's gifted. A lot of black folk hate her because they know she's right, but to admit that would require that we change.
