I personally feel that their is nothing wrong with interracial marriage as long as the the ppl are truly in love with one another. However, their are to many black men/women who interriacially date for the wrong reasons. What are your thoughts? |

On a "LEVEL PLAYING FIELD", I'm all for it.
I've stated in many interviews that I believe that it's "natural" for interracial unions to occur.
I myself have been in SEVERAL--I lived with a White Jewish man in Fairfax, Virginia for 5 years, which is documented in my autobiography.
What I have a problem with...is the "USE" of interracial mating in the United States as a "tool" to AID black people in what is obviously an epidemic of self-hatred and desire for erasure.
Not love.
If this were truly just "interracial love"---then it would occur much less frequently, and the majority of Black females married to Black males would not be "light as he could".
Going all the way back to the late 1800's and through the 1900's---there was an undeniable COLOR CASTE in this country that makes it impossible for anyone to claim that "Black folks" choose their mates for the same criteria that "White people" do.
Blacks, since slavery ended, have been in a stampede to IMPORT "whiteness" or "otherness" into their blood....to refute blackness.
Otherwise, why would Blacks curse Africa so often and try to distance themselves from it.
EVERYONE can see what's going on. No matter how you deny it.
And it's the HATRED of black people by black people that I'm so vehemently against.
No one will EVER convince me that Kobe Bryant loves his wife.
EVER.
The Jackson family has 20 grandkids.
Only 3 to 5 look black.
How could anyone in their right mind claim that a normal, healthy family of 10 people would produce children who look nothing like them?

I didn't get the big deal with Terence Howard before (still don't). I don't think I've ever watched a movie with him in it. But last night, he SO pissed me off.
He was on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Nothing else was on, I'm up, I don't have cable, so I just watch it.
He started talking about going to a spa with Lawrence Fishburn. For no reason, he said, "I'm half white, but because of the constitution, I have to say I'm black." Then he continued on with his story about going to the spa. (In talking about the spa, he was just saying how odd it is to be naked in a hot tub with other guys, and how he doesn't like the spa.)
I'm not against half-white people. What angered me was that NO ONE ASKED if he was half-white, it had NOTHING TO DO with the story he was telling at the time. He just threw it into the middle of a conversation for no reason. Conan didn't even ask him anything about it after he mentioned it. It seems like he just wanted to throw it in, to make sure we know or something. I said out loud, "who asked him that?" |

I am a 21 years old black female. All the men that I've ever dated have been black. For me black men are always on the top of my list. I love them. But that is not to say that I would not consider dating out of my race. Latino and Arabic men are fine.
I think that you have to be comfortable with the person that you're with. If I did date a man of another race, just like a black man, he would have to be a christian, and understand and accept who I am as a black women.
However, I could never see myself dating a white man. I want to white schools and had white friends. White guys liked me. But I never felt comfortable with dating them.
It was not because I felt that my family or friends would object. They wouldn't. I just didn't feel that white guys had the background that a minority male would have to be able to relate to me on curtain issues.

I hear you, Rmmmorris. All of the Asian guys that I dated were either middle or upper middle class, mostly upper middle. The Latinos were usually middle class, particularly in terms of values. But when it came to white men, I only enjoyed dating the ones who were either working class or raised that way.
I couldn't relate to the middle & upper middle class ones -- I thought they were stiff and corny -- I got tired of acting like I was into what they did, their perspective, and laughing at their corny jokes -- I'm too real for that.
(I didn't mind spending their money though.. lol.) But I needed someone who could relate to my experience. When left to white men, the ones from the working class were the closest -- Plus they had Flava! So they were alright.

Correction: I will not fuck ANYTHING.. black or otherwise. And there's a huge difference between dating and becoming emotionally involed. To this day, I've only been involved emotionally with one guy outside my race, and I purposely broke it off because I didn't want it to go to far. I've never imagined myself with anyone besides a black man. I know that's where I belong. Until I meet the right one, however, I see no problem in DATING whomever I want....
(I have to be honest though, I do have a thing for Asian men.)

### This is the first time I have heard this. If it is true, it sounds weak and pathetic. I have no idea what he was thinking or what prompted him to say something like that. As if by saying so, he would get “head of the line privileges” for being half white. No one cares nor is anyone impressed. Why would they be? Perhaps his being half white may have carried some significance or importance in 1940. But I seriously doubt if any black (or white for that matter) person honestly cares or is impressed by this in the year 2006.
But I differ from many of the readers of this board because I don’t make such petty and divisive distinctions between black people regardless of their skin color. And I don’t believe in demonizing and ridiculing anyone because of the color of their skin. My best friend is half white and has often been mistaken for being Jewish. But he is the most solid down to earth individual I have ever met. He is a very hard core brother who is very serious about black art, music, literature, history and politics. I have known him for more than thirty years and I have never heard him make a comment about his color (or his genetic background) or the color of any other black person. NEVER!
I don’t believe in calling people racist names because of their genetic background. No one picks their parents or their race. I believe in criticizing people for failed personal responsibility, ignorance, lack of respect and reckless irresponsible behavior. NOT SKIN COLOR. But I have to dismiss Howard if he made such a meaningless and misplaced statement about his racial heritage. I have no idea what he was thinking or hoping to establish with such a silly and unwarranted statement.
And the ridiculous comment about having to “say he is black because of the constitution” may be a sign of some form of psychosis of delusions of grandeur. With or without the constitution, he still looks like a black man! Having light skin by itself does not endear you to whites nor does it enable you to “look white”. Terrence Howard cannot pass for white under any circumstances regardless whether the constitution existed or not (which has not a damn thing to do with his absurd comment)!
Was he serious when he made that statement? It makes absolutely no sense.

I think in this day and age we have to stop limiting ourselves as to our choice of mate. I am an intelligent, educated, attractive Black woman who has a lot going on for herself. Yet the Black men I come in contact with seem to either villify me for wanting more in life than to be a check on their turnstyle of women or they do not have a lot of thinigs in common with me. I happen to like ballroom dancing, watching old movies, and reading but yet I do not find a lot of Black men in my vicinity who desire those same things. Am I to stay at home because I am not a fan of going to the glorified bars we have that everyone calls a club? HELLLL NOOO!!! And if a man of another race decides we share a commonality and we have something in common, of course I would go out with him.
I believe we have to be more openminded as a people. Now like a lot of women, yes, I do get tired of seeing all of these fine Black brothers with women of other races, showing them off as if they were prizes. But as I cannot be anything except a beautiful Black woman, I will be adored by whatever man treats me respectfully and truly likes me. A friend of mine told me recently that we Black women need to look into dating outside of our race more frequently. Although other men may not seem to exude the same fervor for us as our brothers do for Whites, Latinas, Asians, etc, there are men out there who like being with Black women. These men can appreciate us just as much as a Black man would. Therefore, regardless of race, I for one will be more than happy to welcome the advances of a brother of another color. |
