Beyonce's acting has improved slightly from her previous work. Although, her portrayal of Deena was rather easy, because she is just like the character: boring, harmless and one dimensional. The directors/producers did an excellent job casting her in this role. |

It was somewhat ruined by Beyonce. Apart from that it was surprisingly good. Beyonce's one of those stars whose presence can make you automatically assume that a movie will be, at best, cheesy and trashy. |

I thought Beyonce was excellent in the movie. There wasnt a lot for her to do because the story is really all about Effie and Curtis. I felt chills when Eddie Murphy was on screen especially how he ended because it was so eerie with James Brown just now dying and Eddie was basically playing James Brown and Marvin Gaye. It was so GOOD! Anika Noni Rose was cute and funny but she looks like a little mouse she had a good part. Jennifer Hudson blew me away with her song.

I took my wife and kids to see Dreamgirls yesterday. We enjoyed it. However, I and my wife enjoyed Eddie Murphy's and Jamie Fox's characters most. Part of it was do to acting and part of it was they, more than perhaps anyone else in the film, portrayed how the music biz REALLY works. When Murphy and Fox weren't in a particular scene, I started to get kinda bored.
Hudson was good. But I wasn't a blown away by her performance as others appear to be. She kinda came off as the stereotypical bossy, bigboned Black woman to me. I think she greatly benefited from the listlessness of Beyonce.
And from the middle towards the end of the film, I thought the movie was a spoof or lampoon of Beyonce and I'm SHOCKED Poppa Knowles and the rest of her handlers allowed her to do the movie.
Honestly, my wife and I kinda felt sorry for Beyonce. |

That movie was great. That was the first time in my life I ever went to see a movie twice, and paid both times. I'm even thinking about seeing it again. Beyonce did a great job. I think without her, the group performances would have been a little blah. She had that whole Diana "I love you" thing going on. Her part was smaller than I thought though. It seemed like she had the least lines out of everyone, but still it was a golden globe performance. An Oscar I'm not sure about... Now, Jennifer Hudson did blow me away... It could've been because I was high when I saw it... Lol.... but in her first scene, she makes her presence known, and I believed her.... When she sang that song, it brought down the roof. Everyone was clapping, I even got a lil teary eyed... It couldve been the weed though... Lol... The whole cast was great.... direction was beautiful, it was almost like being on broadway. Most of the scenes happen on a stage, but you won't even realize it until the movie is over. All I can say is BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!!
I heard that Beyonce had some of Jennifer Hudson's scenes cut, so she could come off as the star of the movie. Who really knows.... I do know that Jamie and Jennifer filmed a love scene, but I didn't see it in the movie.... O well.... The movie is still great.... |

Edenson, no you didn't say Bey's performance was golden globe worthy. She played herself for one and it's the same role she's ever played (a girlfriend, entertainer, singer, girlfriend, entertainer, singer...) - not a real stretch at all. Funny how she says she was born to play that role. I saw it after I was told it wasn't all about Beyonce. Her performance was nonexistent. She was more of a stage prop. That was a fill in the blank role, anyone could have played Deena. Wasn't it funny though when Jamie told Deena that her voice has no personality? If that don't describe Beyonce
How can he mama get mad that Jhud stole the show? Do Beyonce even read or comprehend?? I mean, if she could at least put 2 and 2 together, she would have known that her part wasn't the star role in the movie. She probably thought she'd steal the show cause she was playing the Diva. In Vanity Fair they said she HAD to have her own hair, wardrobe and makeup people. Ya'll know how long it take a movie to rap. All that damn money she spent to be a very pretty stage prop. Aha -ha-ha!!!!
It's mighty funny how art immitates life. Has anyone noticed how they are NOT playing Jhud's song AIATY but they're spinning the hell out of Beyonce's??? That's damn near the same thing that happened in the movie. I remember hearing Holliday's song on the radio when I was growing up so it seems kind of suspect that they aren't playing the main song from that movie.

Abm youre kidding! Beyonce was supposed to be Diana Ross and the script made Diana look like a sweet little naive person who saved the day at the end of the movie and Curtis was the bastardy villain. I dont see how anybody could feel sorry for Beyonce. They changed the damn play around so that she could come to Effie's rescue at the end. HA! In real life Effie died on welfare and Diana Ross became the biggest black star of her time and according to Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle a seriously TREACHEROUS beyotch. Beyonce got off as a hero!

You know Enchanted, I was thinking the same thing. Diana is the most self centered of all the Diva's. An evil bitch really. And Beyonce said she met her in an interview and she was "sooooo nice". I'm like, what a damn dummy. Diana Ross is not known to be a nice person. And if Beyonce didn't have a name, Diana Ross wouldnt look twice at her ass. She's cut throat and don't care about stepping on nobody.
Truth be told, she probably feels that her old ass shoulda played Deena in the movie. |

I liked the movie too. B did fine as did the rest of the cast. I would love for Danny Glover to get some props, too. The Knowles must be thrilled that Beyonce got a GG nomination. Maybe DREAMGIRLS will be best picture, too. I wonder if Patti and Gladys are jealous because Diana Ross was always more popular than they?
Jennifer Hudson was not the sterotypical full figured diva. She was multi-dimensional-not a joke or victim as big women are are portrayed in the movies. |

MAD is probably more like it, since Dianna Ross isn't fit to shine either one of these ladies shoes.
How would you feel if you were the best worker on your JOB but you never got the credit because of some bullshit like this? And instead of sympathizing with you... everybody was going around saying you're fucking "jealous"??

Dianna was no slouch Tonya she had far better material than they did and she was glamorous and more interesting than Patty and Gladys. I dont recall anyone being able to sound like Ross either except Michael Jackson so she had a sound that set her apart. I never disliked Dianna singing or the fact that she had star quality but I didnt like that she was so conniving then again she made it clear from day one she would do anything to make it to the top. I guess a male quality.

Oh please. Patti's great and Gladys is alright, but neither one of these ladies has anything on Miss Diana Ross.
Mahogany. Lady Sings the Blues. Plus she has a much greater body of musical work than either Patti or Gladys.
They've all had their share of problems, but while Gladys is trying to overcome her gambling addiction and Patti's pimping clothes at QVC - Miss Diana is lounging around eating bonbons.

Well Kola Boof looks like Tales from the Crypt Keeper too and shes not even old. Who cares what Dianna Ross look like she was one of the best in the biz and people need to give her her props. Others had bigger voices but Dianna had star quality more than any of them did. Her competiton wasn't Gladys and Patti it was Dionne Warwick and Barbra Streisand. Dianna was bigger with whites than blacks.

all i know is that when abc did a show about diana ross on 20/20 or some other night time show.
her children sang a song for her, and they all (her children and her) were in tears.
this was VERY touching.

So she has bad teeth, not everyone's perfect. At least she hasn't had a ton of face lifts and nose jobs and who knows what else. For Miss Ross to be seen walking down the street without makeup speaks VOLUMES!!! And it's something that neither Patti nor Gladys could ever do. Ross isn't the phoney diva some people are making her out to be. |

Okay Tonya . . . but how are you gonna start some shit by posting a comment such as this:
MAD is probably more like it, since Dianna Ross isn't fit to shine either one of these ladies shoes.
And then turn around and tell me I'm tripping when I challenge that.
Listen, all of them are wonderful artists and women. They are each talented and they have all lead interesting lives.
And BTW they were all born in 1944.
But out of the three of them - DIANA ROSS is the SUPERSTAR.
When Patti or Gladys do a concert, they will draw a crowd. No doubt about that.
When Diana Ross does a concert in Tokyo, London, Johannesburg, New York City and any place in between - IT IS A MONUMENTAL EVENT THAT EVERYONE IN THE CITY WITH THE NECESSARY RESOURCES WILL BE CLAMORING TO ATTEND. IT WILL BE OVERCROWDED WITH PEOPLE IN CHAOTIC MOB SCENES!!!
And I don't have anything against the other two, I'm just telling it the way it is. Keeping it real!
So no, I can't give you anything. Miss Diana is a QUEEN. An EMPRESS
