I don't know whether they are the best, by my FAVORITE of girl groups listed on the website are The Pointer Sisters and The Emotions because they could really SING and they're sisters.

And the Emotions were produced by the Great CHARLES STEPNEY!!!

Abm-
I don't know Charles Stepney?
I was saddened by the loss of June Pointer earlier this year. She was the youngest and my favorite.

Robynmarie,

I'm not surprised you haven't heard of Charles Stepney. Few foks have. Sadly he died 30 years ago (this May). But Stepney was one of the greatest producers of American music. And even though you don't know him you most DEFINITELY have heard of Charles Stepney's MUSIC.

I always thought En Vogue was a cool group. I loved the collaboration on the song "What A Man" with rappers Salt N Peppa who were a pretty smokin female duo themselves.

Always. But that's a contemplation that stays on my mind. I never can decide who was/is the best.

Yvettep-After much bugging, they invited me as a guest contributor for the month of December. I would love to get a permanent spot. blackprof is very cool.

SS- I know how you feel. I forgot Sister Sledge. There are so many fantastic girl groups, black and white, I am trying to expand the blog into a book. Any feedback regarding that possibility is greatly appreciated.

EnVogue is my favorite of all the ones you all have named. I hated xscape. They sucked.

1. The Supremes (without Diana Ross--Jean Terrell was lead singer) Anybody remember their #1 hits without Diana Ross in 1970 and 1971, STONED LOVE, Up the Ladder to Roof, Floy Joy, Nathan Jones???? That group got super big after Diana Ross left. 2. The Supremes WITH Diana Ross 1960s (cant argue with success and I think Ross was the best Supreme of all) 3. Martha Reeves and the Vandellas 4. The GoGo's 5. The Pointer Sisters 6. En Vogue 7. SWV 8. The Marvelettes 9. Original broadway cast of DREAMGIRLS (Jennifer Holiday Sheryl Lee Ralph Loretta Devine) 10. The Three Degrees Now I admit it took me two days to make up my list after careful research. LOL

I always felt En Vogue was the total package - attractive, great figures, and each lady had a helluva set of pipes. I think if they'd stay together, they would have gone down in music history with legendary status (a la Supremes). As it stands, the music industry regards them as a short-lived girl group. Sad.
