i was an avid listener of of 97.1 fm detroit radio station. i listened to the entire line-up since i work alot and have crazy deadlines, but today was the final straw and i've grown tired of getting up and having to turn the station every day because of the Opie and Anthony show. it is without a doubt, the most racist show that i've ever heard in my life. i was stationed in fort hood during the o.j. trial years and heard alot of racist speak as well as even hearing a confederate show that was so racist it was funny, but none of that can compete with opie and anthony. on a daily basis they belittle and insult black americans and you can tell it's not with an attempt to be humorus but rather to just be shocking or just flat out mean. anyways i don't know if there in any of you guys and gals neck of the woods ... but i'm willing to bet that if you listened to them for a week you'd quickly find out what i mean. |

Is this a Black radio station or a white radio station. And Detroit is a city with the largest Black population in the country. Why are they allowing this to go one??
What are some of the things that they say? And are Blacks that disenfrachised in Detroit that they do not have the power to end this program?? |

And? If you find it that insulting and racist, why do you continue to listen to it? Why would you continue to listen to insults when you have no way of directly addressing the offending party? TURN TO ANOTHER STATION!

They have no right to do anything but protest the dj’s racist antics or not listen to it. The First Amendment guarantees all speech will be heard and allowed as long as it does not advocate violence or insurrection. I find Rush Limbaugh’s radio program to be obnoxious, David Horowitz to be strident racist and Ann Coulters shrill right wing ramblings to be absurd. I do not listen to nor watch either. Why can’t you do the same? Believe it or not, those dj’s on that particular radio show, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Reagan and Ann Coulter, all have rabid followers who agree and support what they say. Do they have a right to hear them?
I suggest you write the radio station about your concerns, create a blog or organize others who support your views if it offends you that much. Otherwise, turn to a station that does not insult your sensibilities. Why let someone spin you up?

If they're that way, it's possible not enough black people listen to it to know that they need to protest. |

it's a show that's stationed in new york (where there is a never ending amount of assholes residing). so i think it's nationally syndicated.
i don't think you all read my comment all the way through before you responded... the show is set-up between 2 shows that i do like, and when i'm in the middle of my work sometimes i can't just hop up and immediately change the damn radio over... but as i stated before, when i have the opportunity to do so i do ... but now, i have decided to just avoid the entire station all together, even the shows that aren't like that, including my favorite sports show. oh well.

Good. Sounds like the correct thing to do when you are being insulted by a dj or TV host. I was watching Bill O'Reilly tonight. Although I know he is the master of spin and the ultimate intolerant right wing blow hard, I watch his show from time to time for entertainment. But tonight, for some strange reason, he was really amped up with some of the most ridiculous ignorant rants that center around his new (and quite successful) "secular progressive" and "far leftist" blather, I had to turn it off. Done deal.

Welcome to the club of not having your comments read all the way through, Dobes. I understandd where you're coming from and what you were trying to convey. But you know what? Although I actually have a visceral reaction to the spiels of right-wing zealots, as an exercise in discipline and a learning experience, I take in what is said by people who I disasgree with. Know thy enemy! LOL. The real problem is to not be able to respond. |

Oh Cynique, as long as you are being tour guide to Doberman, I meant to tell you that we were in Chicago a couple weekends ago (whwnever that Disney parade was downtown) and had a BALL! My M-I-L and I took my daughters to the American Girl store for brunch and shopping--I thought I would hate it, but I gotta admit I had a very good time there. What a concept! I swear, folks were dropping $700-$1000 without blinking! How can I come up with a marketing idea like that???? |

Yes, Chicago is as a great city with a lot of spectacular tourist attractions and its beautiful skyline along the lake front, all of which over the years I have come to take for gratnted. Which is to say I don't know much to recommend specifically but our museums are world-famous, our jazz clubs expensive, our food distinctive. The Bronzeville section which is the south side black community is being revitalized and rennovated and one of the trendy spots there is Blu-47, located on 47th Street and King Drive. For sheer fun and amusement I would recommend the Navy Pier complex which is located in the down-town area. Dobes, you might could even get tickets for a Bulls game if they aren't sold out. Yvette, I've heard about the American Girl; it is pretty upscale. Not too long ago, native Americans were demonstrating against it because they didn't like the way the doll representing them looked. |

i think i'll do the mueseums, navy pier, and probably try to see what sort of play or something like that is going on. i am not ballin' out of control yvette ... with a house note and a car note, i have to stick to a budget, so forget the 4 seasons too even though she is special. 
i will see if i can get bulls tickets on ebay. |

LOL, OK, Doberman. Thumbs up on the Navy Pier. Also, Tut is at the Field Museum plus they have a wonderful exhibit about Mendel if genetics is your thing.

Good point. I agree. I often listen and watch people I totally disagree with. Listening to them only serves to increase my resolve. You need to know what your adversaries are saying and doing.
