BET has a new series started hosted by Ving Rhames called American Gangster that features famous Black American Gangsters. The program I saw last night was about the late Tookie Williams,
co-founder of the Crips.

It really didn't have much I didn't know--rather startling was this piece of film from The Gong Show that showed him competing --he was a bodybuilder and his act consisted of his standing there posing while two scantily clad women gyrated on either side of him--

He scored high but lost.

As you can imagine, the whole thing is a tragedy, of a wasted life and thousands of casualties in its wake.

What was interesting was how it showed the rise of the Crips was linked to the destruction of the Panthers and other groups by the police and COINTELPRO--the Panthers were trying to recruit the brothers on the block and target their hostility on the system--instead they got picked off and these kids--they were all teenagers, not under the control of any OG's as is the case today--vented the hosility on themselves.

Tookie, Ray Washington, others are our Monk Eastman and Paul Kelly--Jewish and Italian thugs that started the first large Jewish and Italian streetgangs only to be shoved aside by real gangsters of the Syndicate--same thing happened to the two of them.

It was a good show. Tookie was cute but not very smart. If he had any sense he would have been a pimp (along with running the gang) women would have been happy to give him their money and that way he wouldn't have had to rob ppl :-(

And I'm not condoning pimping, I'm just saying that if you're gonna be a thug anyway then figure out a way to work smarter, not harder.

Mzuri:

I respectfully disagree.

Pimp ain't no good hustle. It was best during the wars--WWI and II or in that period when you had lots of men emigrating to America but few women. What pimp ever made as much money as a gambler or drug dealer or shylock? How many guys, black, white, or other, made a big roll pimping and stuck it into legitimate business.

He was a thug. These guys have violence issues--that is, it is not about money, it is about releasing one's agressions by beating up other people.

He would have been a gorilla pimp and they don't have a long career--they wind up killing some woman or forcing some 15 year old white girl into the life and wind up with a lot of time.

He could have been a boxer but he was too much of a coward.

No, bodybuilder would be right. Probably own a gym and work in the community like he was doing.
