Hip Hop and Rap Cultures Have Contributed to a Backward Slide for Black America
Roy Innis, National Chairman of CORE, is alarmed and concerned about a quote by Kanye West in the December 2006 issue of Essence Magazine. In the issue, West is quoted as saying, “If it wasn’t for race mixing there’d be no video girls. Me and most of our friends like mutts a lot. Yeah, in the hood they call ‘em mutts”.
Although Mr. Innis was struck by the reference to mixed-raced women as “mutts”, he was even more alarmed that Kanye’s statement might be an indication that Black America is slipping back into the self-contempt and self-hatred that he addressed in the 1960’s and 1970’s. This slide he attributes largely to rap and hip-hop cultures.
In a statement given on November 15, 2006. Mr. Innis states, “ I was one of the pioneers of the concept of Black is Beautiful. That we must be proud of our African ancestry. Unfortunately, the demon of self-depreciation has been the most difficult demon for Black Americans of all complexions to expel. Darker skinned Blacks like Kanye West have had an even harder time accepting Blackness in themselves and in others. I wonder how much we have gained psychologically, since the bad old days of the 60’s, in our appreciation of our Blackness”. |

Kanye's just saying what TONS of black men think. This should come as no surprise. Ever since Kanye rocked his white Jesus piece around his neck and claimed that it looked better white, I knew he had issues. |

It is difficult to decide who is the bigger idiot, Kanye West or Roy Innis for even paying attention to what somebody in show bizness is saying.
What someone in showbizness says is no indication at all of what real people think. I would venture to say that such people are, pound for pound more oblivious than the general populace if you can believe that.
Negroes need to quit trying to appoint these people their leaders. No other race looks to its clowns for leadership and guidance. |

People, he's a typical self-hating black male fool. The world is FULL of them. I bet in his (very recent) snot-nosed grade school days, he spewed "blickety black" jokes at the young tar-skinned beauties with African features in his class: "You is BLAAAAAAACK! You African Booty SCRATCHA!"
Wake up people, this jerk has the mic. He actually said he had "good hair" on the Ellen Degeneres show, and jokingly refered to a dark skinned female audience member as "A He," misconstruing her name. |

Chris, appointing celebrites as spokes people is not limited to Black people. The Terminator is running California, a fake cowboy was in the white house. We had Jessie "The Body" Ventura as a governor in some other state.
Our problem is that we don't own enough media to promote the important things that some of us have to say... and honestly most people would not want to hear anything important anyway. They are more interested in who Flavor Flav is gonna get with next.

It seems every time West opens that trap of his, he proves he has A LOT of growing up to do. His mother isn't a very dark woman, and the women he dates, including the one he's currently engaged to, are not very dark women. Has it ever occurred to West that these women, including his own mother, may be "mutts"? |
