Is she fat?

Most White men and women certainly think so.

But if you ask the average black person they would label her as being "thick", and that she has a nice body with a big "booty".

I just thought I'd bring this topic up because there have been some ppl who think that AA's encourage a very unhealthy standard of physical fitness by encouraging women to be "thick". And this is why so many black women remain overweight and refuse to work out. Personally, I have came across some black women who won't go near a treadmill because they don't want to lose their "ass", and want to stay thick.

No, I don't think she is fat and her body is toned.

However, "thick" young women tend to become "fat" older women. So unless they exercise and maintain a reasonable diet they may become overweight as they age.

I think women at any age should exercise just because of the overwhelming health issues that go hand-in-hand with aging.

I don't mean you literally have to exercise your "ass" off but at least strengthen your muscles, your joints and give your heart a little respect.

I wouldn't consider this woman fat at all. No double-chin, no chubby cheeks, no gut, no "plump" wrists or ankles. She's voluptuous and curvaceous. She's not a toothpick. To me, she has a real woman's body.

I don't think she's fat either. But on a lot of forums where Whites frequent, they are saying she is a lard ass and needs to lose weight.

That's not surprising. A friend of mine is a life insurance agent and told me in most cases when Blacks are weighed and measured, even though they don't look fat, the "standard" height and weight chart indicates that they ARE overweight. Therefore, they are charged a higher premium.

I've always maintained that genetically Blacks are naturally "fuller-bodied" and can carry more weight than our White counterparts without looking overweight or obese. But because "standard" height/weight charts are based on White male and female body types, Blacks seem overweight by comparison.

I think if we were to see a White woman of the same height and weight as the above woman, she (WW) would look overweight.

All I can say about her booty is Dammmmmmmmmmmmn!!!! The last girl in the pic.
If anybody promotes unhealthy eating habits are white ppl. That is why so many of their women are killing themselves just to look acceptable to white society through Anorexia.

Not only that many white ppl would tear down "Delicious" because many white ppl are very uncomfortable with looking at Black ppl's bodies. And to see a visably Black woman wearing "barely nothing" offends many white ppl.

That is why during the slave days they forced many Black women to cover up their bodies, and their hair.

Serenasailor, I was surprised to hear so many White ppl say that they have never heard of the term "thick" before. They asked, what the hell does that mean? lol I thought everybody knew what a thick woman was and what she looked like.

They seem to find the lady on the show named New York figure more attractive, and Buckey. But I found it odd how they also think Queen Latifah's figure is nice but not Deelishus (the girl in the beginning of this thread)

Truth be told Brownbeauty any visably BW who dares to express her sexuality will be "ripped apart" by Blacks and Whites.

So it makes no difference whether its Buckey, New York, or Deelicious those are all visably BW and therefore they will be subject to the same crutiny.

It is almost like Janet Jackson and the "Nipplegate" scandel. Now, Janet Jackson is ten times prettier than Britney Spears, or Jessica Simpson but do you think any of those women would have been "ripped apart" if they had should their breast the way Janet Jackson did?

So my point is it doesn't matter how small or "thick" a BW is. Any visably BW who dares to express her sexuality is treated as a criminal in white society.

She ain't fat, but she's mighty damn "thick". Big thighs are one thing, but too much ass is "too" much ass.

”Most White men and women certainly think so.”

This is very true. Whites and blacks have very different views and opinions about body types and what is hot and what is not. It’s a cultural thing. When I lived in Japan, a Japanese friend of mine had an aunt who was just average by American standards. As I recall, I’d say she weighed about 140-150 lbs max. The woman was very wealthy but she according to my close friend, she had a very difficult time buying clothes. She had to special order and shop at special stores for her clothes. She was considered huge! True story.

”But if you ask the average black person they would label her as being "thick", and that she has a nice body with a big "booty".”

True again. Since I’m a black man, I would consider her “thick”, not big. But as you have stated, in the white world, she would be considered big. While having big legs, hips and a parabolic booty is a plus for blacks, Latinos and Italians, American white culture takes a different view. One that is not exactly friendly to those in possession of such genetic characteristics.

I recall working at out Gold’s Gym once when I noticed two young “thick” white women working out. They both were wearing standard gym gear for many white women –the butt cape! The butt cape is usually a sweat shirt tied around a woman’s waist to cover her ass. Why? Because they (white women) are ashamed of their butts so they try to cover them up by tying sweat shirts and the like around their waists. When I asked them what the cape for, they mumbled some kind of lame excuse. But when I pressed the issue, they admitted they were trying of hide their butts. But both these young women had very well proportioned bodies. They were very curvy, nice hips, booties sticking our and great diamond shaped calves. But they told me they were fat and felt their booties were too big. When I told them instead of talking all that fat static and unwarranted criticism, they should start dating brothers who would show them real appreciation for their natural genetics, they laughed and said, “Oh –we know that! Black guys come up to us all the time!” There ya have it. It’s a cultural thang!

”I just thought I'd bring this topic up because there have been some ppl who think that AA's encourage a very unhealthy standard of physical fitness by encouraging women to be "thick". And this is why so many black women remain overweight and refuse to work out.”

Unfortunately this is very true. Black women are under extreme pressure from brothers to pack the back (just the opposite of white women) and in doing so, many believe as long as they have a big butt, that’s all that matters. Such thinking is flawed because unfortunately, a large number of black women have over looked a very major factor that goes accompanies ten star booty diva; Symmetry, balance and proportion! Many black women believe since they have a mega booty, nothing else counts. Such thinking is, as I said, flawed! VERY FLAWED! The booty should not be responsible for 40% of your total body weight! And we all know exactly what I mean! You can’t have a mega booty with a short waist line, stomach that hangs out, rolls of fat and lower legs that look like kitchen table legs! Again, you all know exactly what I am talking about.

” Personally, I have came across some black women who won't go near a treadmill because they don't want to lose their "ass", and want to stay thick.”

I believe you. This is sad. Very sad. These women are disillusioned because their overall body symmetry is off and the booty dominates their total physical structure. But to be fair, I understand how they think. And because of men like me, who are mindlessly obsessed with women’s butts, they feel because they have to have a big butt at all costs. Nothing else matters.

Nice topic BB123. I really appreciate the subject and the pic you posted. IT WORKS FOR ME. I LOVED IT! I think black men and women should discuss this booty thing and all it’s implications, advantages and short comings since for many black women, it crosses over into the health and fitness realm.

Black men have been very constant in their appreciation for big butts, but thank goodness they have moved past what they used to salivate over back in the day when they went "ape" over women with hairy legs and thin mustaches above their upper lips. Of course, this was also during the time when these he-men thought wearing cologne was for sissies. (Ahem, just a little excursion into ancient history.)

I wonder if BB is capable of posting anything that's halfway thought-provoking. Instead of her typical blather about Black women's skin tone, titties or asses. Just once.

What about Paris Hilton? She gets ripped apart pretty badly by Whites for wearing short skirts with no underwear..

I'm enclined to agree with MEDICAL reasonings, that the "flava of love girl" is OVERWEIGHT, but not "fat". I'm pretty sure she weighs more than what she should at her height and weight. I see it in her thighs alone.

But I think there's a big difference between "overweight" and "fat". "fat" is more on the lines of high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, etc.

But like someone else mentioned overweight black women turn into "fat" black women years down the road because they use the EXCUSE that Black women are suppose to be naturally thick. but even if 99% of ALL black women love thick women, there's still health concerns with being thick/fat/overweight that SHOULD make black women rethink this whole beauty vs. health thing.

Don't forget that the same mainstream media rip Serena Williams for showing too much back as well as the touchup of Beyonce on the Maxim cover.

Beyonce's Booty Downsized For Magazine?
August Maxim Features 'Goldmember' Star

It looks as though singer-actress Beyonce Knowles' backside is anything "butt" perfect for the men's magazine Maxim.

A source told MSNBC online's "The Scoop" that the magazine's art department "worked overtime" to slim down the "Austin Powers in Goldmember" heroine's thighs and hips for her photo spread in the August issue.

In addition to playing Foxxy Cleopatra in "Goldmember" (interactive) Knowles has recorded several hits with the singing group Destiny's Child, including "Bootylicious."

Maxim photo editor Scott MacBlane told MSNBC online that all photos in the magazine are retouched, but added, "we just never comment on specifics."

Speaking specifically about Knowles, MacBlane said that Knowles is "a totally A-list star, she looks amazing, and we were thrilled to have her in Maxim." Knowles' representatives had no comment on the photo spread.

On Serena:

Reading the Catsuit
Serena Williams and the Production of Blackness at the 2002 U.S. Open
Jaime Schultz
University of Iowa

During the 2002 U.S. Open, Serena Williams received a great deal of attention for wearing an outfit described as "a body-clinging, faux leather, black cat-suit." It was not necessarily the catsuit itself that the popular media found especially controversial but rather the visibility of her physique the outfit provided. The ways in which Serena Williams, the outfit, and her body were discussed offers a particular site at which to interrogate the production of blackness in 21st-century, U.S. society. This article argues that the processes of differentiation the popular media used to characterize her are located within racialized discourse. By representing Williams through oppositional rhetorics, that is, setting her multiple identities in contradistinction to other women on the tour, accounts concerning her appearance in the catsuit reproduce the hegemonic racialized order in women’s tennis.

This is true. I thought everyone here was aware of this. I'm sure they are. But just the idea of being asscoated with that almost 50 year old, crack head looking, grilled buffoon is enough to taint her for life! IMO. Same goes for Brigette Nelson.

To me that first woman's body looks too big and I would never aspire to a body shape like that.

And I am not keen on the second woman wither. And people may put me down as some 'cop out' or not 'authentic' because I feel this way but I am truly not. My body size doesn't mirror these women and I wouldn't want it that way. Not all black ladies are shaped like this.
