ISAIAH WASHINGTON: "Black"-lash Already???

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

With success comes drama.

We all know it comes with the territory, right?

Ask red hot actor Isaiah Washington, who portrays Dr. Preston Burke on ABC's hit medical drama Grey's Anatomy.

If you're one to believe the hype of recent tabloid reports, the hunky black actor opened up a can of whoop-ass on the set of the Shonda Rhimes-created series recently.

The New York Daily News is picking up on an Enquirer magazine story that had the Girl 6 and Get on the Bus star breaking out in fisticuffs with co-star Patrick Dempsey -- aka Doctor McDreamy.

The donnybrook is said to have erupted at L.A.'s Prospect Studios when Washington, 43, and Dempsey, 40, started arguing over cast members being late for a scene, reported the paper's gossip duo Rush & Malloy. "Isaiah became enraged and grabbed Patrick by the throat and shoved him back a few feet."

Hmmmm.

"Enraged"?

"Throat"?

"Shoved"?

Now that's a lot to stomach.

Even the thought of it.

Thoughts of Latrell Sprewell are coming to mind.

One of my galpals (who shall not be named) hipped me to this skip protesting that this negative mainstream media spinning is painting to Mister Washington out to be, in her own words, "An Angry Black Man."

Why would Isaiah -- who is sitting on top of the world-- be mad.

Some believe "we" stay mad!!!

After from whence Washington came (he was shot during rough and tumble times, and still has the bullet lodged in him -- read all about it here), I would think that he wouldn't be involved in such foolishness.

But hey, you never know.

How did that old saying go?

"You can take the boy out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the boy."

Or something like that.

Whateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever!!!

My thoughts:
I don't believe this shit for one minute, but you know the white media is going to be all over it. Portraying Isaiah has the angry Black man.

If we are well aware of how the media is quick to portray us in a negative light, why give them the ammunition to begin with?
They needn't make this about race (but you know they will). Grey's Anatomy is not a "white show". The main writer is black, the main characters are of mixed ethnicities, and some of these actors are interracially involved in real life. McDreamy is not even getting the attention he did in the first season. McSteamy is taking over!!! LOL!

I hope someone opens up a can of whoop-ass on Shonda Rhimes for making the only BW character on the show a fat, loud, masculine, Monique type.

Serenasailor --

"I hope someone opens up a can of whoop-ass on Shonda Rhimes for making the only BW character on the show a fat, loud, masculine, Monique type."

That's the best thing you've said to date.

It's almost analogous to "Deal or No Deal". Their contestant application screens out engineers, doctors, lawyers, computer programmers and just about anyone else who can "think" on their own two feet. In that case, perhaps they're just looking for the "ignorant" blue-collar stereotype. What a crock!

Well, I don't mind that so much Nels. They are just trying to give it to working class ppl. I mean lets be honest do you think a doctor that makes $750,000 a year need $300,000,000 extra.
