Why won't the black men in Africa fight for their families?

Can't they make weapons from scraps of metal and old tools and form mobs to ward off the militia?

Isn't there some way for them to fight back?

Why do they send their women out for food knowing they'll be tortured and raped?? Why do they wait around for the women to get back from being ambushed, mutilated and probably infected with AIDS? ...Because they’re hungry? Are they waiting to be fed?

Help me wrap my head around this.

1) Can be answered many ways.

2) Possibly. Possibly not.

3) Possibly. Possibly not.

4) Selfishness. Sexism.

5) Sexism

It's life. And sometimes feeling the pain of others is far worse than our own. At least you have a conscious regarding the inhumane treatment of other human beings ...and for that alone, I respect your being.

I saw on the news that the reason the women go out for subsistence is because the enemy will only rape them, not kill them - which is what happens when the men go out. The people need guns, not spears, slingshots and homemade weapons. They must be able to fight fire with fire.

That's what happens in Sudan. The women and children are kidnapped for slaves. The men are killed.

They chop off a lot of limbs over there with knives.

I seen men with arms, ears, legs and hands cut off. So I guess it better to get raped and come on back with some food.

The real question is; on a continent where the incomes are so so low how are the Africans getting all those guns? I see kids on television with automatic rifles. The kids can't afford to buy food but they are carrying an automatic weapon. These guns are expensive.

A few months ago the U.S. admitted we were supplying weapons to some warlords to keep the Muslims from controlling Somalia. I wouldn't doubt if the U.S., the British and other former colonist are helping to create war all over Africa.

the US, the UK and various other white countries supply them with weapons. The reason? They're quite keen for blacks to kill each other as often as possible.

What about all the Arab countries shipping guns into Africa to spread Islam?? The Arabs in North Sudan get their guns from the Arab countries.

The South Sudan people on their own according to Kola Boof and Condoleeza Rice though I suspect that's about to change if Sudan don't let the U.N. come in. Who else sees a takeover by the U.S. coming up?

"What about all the Arab countries shipping guns into Africa to spread Islam?? "

And they will continue to do so. They are bent on spreading Islamic fundamentalism at any cost. Just like the US and Soviets did during the cold war with the war in Angola. IT WAS ALL ABOUT SPECIAL INTERESTS AND NOTHING ELSE!

"The Arabs in North Sudan get their guns from the Arab countries."

Ya got that right! And they will continue to do so! The Arabs are only concerned about other Arabs and the furtherance of their political influence and Islam. They have no interest in the well being of black Africans nor any affinity for them. Don't forget, the Arabs were one of the biggest slave traders of black Africans (and still do so!). Slavery was outlawed in Saudi Arabia in 1963! More than 100 years after it had been abolished in Western nations. DO NOT THINK FOR ONE SECOND THAT THEY ARE FRIENDS OR BROTHERS TO BLACKS!

"The South Sudan people on their own according to Kola Boof and Condoleeza Rice though I suspect that's about to change if Sudan don't let the U.N. come in."

Don't bet on it happening soon. They have been dragging their feet for decades about this very issue. This is nothing new. The UN is pathetic and weak!

"Who else sees a takeover by the U.S. coming up? "

Nope. Why should they? There are no serious oil concerns nor major strategical significance for US interests. Besides, they're just black Africans. Why would anyone care what happens to them? The Bush administration continues to push this monstrous lie that they are bent on spreading global democracy and fighting for human rights. That is their latest lie and mantra for staying the course in Iraq (it started out with WMD's then ties to terrorist groups -both were proven to be false).

Have you ever heard of Africans with bombs or nuclear devices? No you haven't because that type of weaponry is not in our imagination because we don't want to kill people in large mass. That type of stuff is not in the nature of African people.

I hear some people in here saying things like why won't they fight back? You guys, people have been phucking Africa for free for a long time. What Africa needs is for their prodical brothers and sisters to return to Africa to help them out.

Proudsista,

Don't hold your breath.

As much yin-yang as most Black Americans and Black Caribbeans talk about the Motherland and all her mystique and majesty - ain't nunna them tryna give up indoor plumbing, Mickey D's, modern medicine, supermarkets, malls, laundromats, and the like, to go risk life and limb in some remote African nation to liberate Africans that most Black Americans and Black Caribbeans descended from over 200 years ago.

It ain't gonna happen. Accept that. They'll talk about it. They'll comment on how fucked-up it is. Some may even post a few threads to let others know that they know what time it is and/or to show concern for their African brethren. But ain't nobody giving up the comforts and conveniences of modern Western civilization to go to war-torn, impoverished, famine and drought stricken Africa on a certain death mission - just because.

Those who are there experiencing that shit firsthand are there because they HAVE TO be there - not because they WANT TO be there.

I would actually move there is my husband were willing to go. I've had Japanese friends who lived there and loved it. One was so into the culture that he actually locked his hair (still trying to figure out how he did that).

Renata,

I would move to Africa, too. The safe parts, the wealthy parts, the peaceful parts, the modernized parts - absolutely would love to live IN THOSE PARTS.

But no way in hell am I putting myself in the middle of a bloodbath or subjecting myself to starvation or inconveniencing myself by not being able to turn on a light switch or take a shower or flush a toilet.

Call me a spoiled, pampered prima donna if you must, but I like shit such as brick-and-mortar houses, self-defrosting refrigerators, and self-cleaning electric stoves.

I wouldn't appreciate living in a mudhut, dodging bullets and lions or having to hunt for my dinner. But that's just me...

Urban_scribe, what parts are those?

I think we would be doing the best we can for all of Africa, if we actually name the places by country instead of just saying "Africa". That way we can get the word out on the good places to live and visit, and give a message to the not so good countries that we're keeping our tourist dollars from them IN PARTICULAR and won't penalize the rest of Africa for it.

I would live in Ghana and Senegal, but I wouldn't live the Congo. My friends lived in Kenya. I hear that the Ivory Coast is nice.

You're so right, Renata, most people, myself included, do tend to speak of Africa as though it is ONE place. But as you pointed out, Africa is a huge continent comprised of many nations with enormous diversity. The only parts (countries) that I've ever been to were Ghana, Benin, and Togo. While I wouldn't consider those places very modern, they were livable and I greatly enjoyed my brief stay there.

I really don't know which African country I would consider relocating to permanently. I would have to do much more research prior to making such a big decision. Whichever country it is, I know I would want it to be peaceful and modern with amenities and opportunities for spiritual, intellectual, artistic, and financial advancement. One thing I've been disheartened to learn is throughout the developing world many places have such amenities and opportunities - but not with women in mind.

So, that's another consideration. I have no desire to change my gender (LOL) therefore, in addition to everything else, I would need to choose a place that is "woman-friendly".
