Alot of the songs sound alike. Janet talking in between cuts is more interesting than the music.LOL. But she should get a couple of hits out of the deal. |

I don't know how Janet's new album sounds, but she sure looks good. It's just amazing! She apparently has found her own personal fountain of youth in the person of Jermaine DuPres who she becomes orgasmic over at just the mention of his name! And she has been quoted as saying something to the effect that he is the first man she's been with who is always "ready"; a good thing inasmuch as she always wants "it." weeeee! ok, ive was going to bring up janet jackson myself, but since somebody already did, ill give my thoughts.

first of all janet jackson has to be one of the most "sexless" women ive ever seen. its like she is trying SO hard to be sexy, but it just comes across as fake, forced, and strange.
janet jackson is one of the strangest celebrities i know of. sure on the surface she's supposed to be hip, sexy, and cool. but my view is that she is hiding something (gee, i wonder what it is). there is just NOTHING sexy or hot about her. her NOSE job didn't help a bit. i like to fancy myself as a guy who can read things about people. there is just something off about janet jackson.
second of all, she is just too old to compete with all of the younger female r&b artists out there. janet jackson is STILL trying to come off as some sexy 20-something, who is young and hot. she just isn't. her time has past.
when you look at janet jackson today, and then you consider beyonce, ciara, shakira (no shakira's not "black", but she is a popular young female singer) etc. janet jackson just is not "doin it" like these younger female artists are. janet jackson is trying to "shake it" and be sexy, but in reality, she's just embarrasing herself (in my opinion). isn't janet jackson like 40-plus? in not on to put people in an "age-box", but janet jackson really needs to give up the "young and sexy" vibe she's TRYING to give off as an artist. it just isn't working anymore.
janet jackson really needs to attempt to reinvent her public persona or something, because she is simply tired, boring, not sexy, over the "young and sexy hill".
its a wrap for janet jackson. her album may sell a few units, but its really time for her to step aside, because she is just a joke when compared to the younger female artist in her genre of music.

i like being friendly.
well, i think mariah carey is not "over", because mariah can actually sing.
before her last album, it was looking like mariah was "over", but her last album had alot of "radio friendly" songs, that were actually good.
i agree mariah "forces" her sexuality abit, but i find it to be different than when janet does it.
i think mariah is actually a "heterosexual" female. janet on the other hand might be "asexual" or a straight lesbian.
when i see mariah trying to act sexy, i just see a female going way over board, attempting to be sexy.
when i see janet jackson trying to be sexy, i just cringe, because its not even like a "female" trying to be sexy. janet jackson comes across as somekind of "asexual" phony or something. for janet its more than just her "forcing" her sexuality. its almost like when rosie o'donnell (before she came out in public) used to "gush" about how she was so in love with tom cruise.
there is just something VERY strange about janet jackson.
yes mariah does force it, but atleast i see a "female" when i see mariah. janet jackson on the other hand, is just DISTURBING and STRANGE.
there is NOTHING even remotely sexual about janet jackson. i get more feeling looking at a barbie doll (black or white lol). |

Funny you should say that. I never thought she was that attractive either. She is not bad looking but rather average. IMO. And I never thought she had a great body, not that it should matter because if you are talented, it really doesn’t affect your ability to perform and sing. I will admit that I was sucker punched hard when someone posted that pic of her when she gained all that weight. I WAS ABSOLUTLY SPEECHLESS! But I don’t keep up with the contemporary music scene so I really didn’t know. But from what others have said, she has lost much of that excess weight. Is this not correct? But regardless, you are correct -the woman can sing!

I posted the pic of fat Mariah and I believe that pic was a mock. I don't believe she was ever that size. And I'm not into women, but I saw her performing on some awards show (can't remember which one) and she had on an evening gown with the split front - that heffa has ass, thighs and tits for days. And the shit looks real too. So I think she's stacked plus she can belt. And there's just something about her smile. Mariah's got it going on. |

I think Mariah has a great body actually, but sometimes she eats too many pies and gets a bit porky. When thin, she was toned yet curvy and I thought she looked great in her little shorts.

Stop hating. Give Janet a little love. She was, after all, the prototype for all of the sexy singer dancers who followed in her wake. Britney Spears was considered a white Janet Jackson; Beyonce, her heir apparent. Janet never had a strong singing voice but she always got props from me because she SANG ON KEY. And I repeat. On Oprah's show Janet looked greeeeeeeat. Her skin was flawless and her body ripped. Mariah Carey has that 8-octave singing voice but she's a cow; sometimes a big one or sometimes a little one. What's most offputting about her act is that she seems to think she has a hot body which she cluelessly flaunts. |

Early in Mariah's career her publicists made quite an exaggeration, because she does not have an 8 octave range, its nearly impossible and quite rare for a singer to have that many octaves. In reality, she has 4 octaves, 5 on a really good day.
I agree with Lil_ze, Janet looks like a piece of shit. That's why her stylists recently have been covering her face with bangs to conceal how much she has aged. She looks like a snapper turtle now. |

I never heard anybody say how many octaves Mariah can sing in. I said "8" octaves facetiously. The one thing Janet Jackson does have going for her is good genes. I can't believe how anybody could say she looks "bad". Her career may be on the skids. But her body is really toned up and her face has no lines or wrinkles. |

Why would you think you were one of the "few" people to judge an artist on the basis of their talent. "igbogirl"?? Do you really believe that? Looking good is just icing on the cake for a performer. Their artistry is what sells records. Something most rappers can attest to, including the chart-topping Missy Elliot who has never been cited for her body or looks. |

You need to see the making of her new video--she has lines and wrinkles all over her face. It's very apparent now. Perhaps, she had new botox injections the last time you seen her so the effects haven't worn off. You don't know what you're talking about, "brownbeauty". Videos are an important part of the industry and most female artists are packaged but the bottom line is if their records do not sound good, their sales reflect this; not how they look. Just ask Jessica Simpson. Janet Jackson cleans up very well. A lot of older stars don't. |

As long as an artist is sexy they can usually sell records even if they can't sing. Case in point: JLo among many many many many others. Madonna's another one. Madonna can just about sing in tune and JLo cannot even do that. But men love JLo, especially negro men, because she is light, nearly white but still has a meaty ass. |

In comparison, India Arie's success did not generate as big of a fanbase as a Beyonce, Britney Spears, or what Jennifer Lopez once had.
Not to mention they are in two totally different genres of music. Pop music is where looks are considered most important--India Arie is Neo-Soul/R&B--where artists have more of a down to earth, round the way appeal--(think Angie Stone) both audiences are looking for something different. If India Arie were to go Pop, she would fail miserably which is why she is comfortably placed in the Neo Soul category.
And if you put aside record sells, each artist you named still have the exact same conventional "pretty girl" blonde appeal--which proves that good looks is a 'basic requirement', the point that I'm trying to get across to you. |

You ain't said "jack" about good looks being a "basic requirement" in an artist's success, until you got backed into a corner, kola-nut, and tried to co-op my argument. You implied that prettiness was all it took. But, just keep convincing yourself that people buy music because of how artists look instead of how good their records are. And who says that India.arie and Alicia Keys are not the same genre. Their approach to their craft is very similar. |

Alicia is more accepted by teenybopper pop fans because she is very pretty. And its not about her being lightskinned. Lauryn was also accepted by fans who do not accept India Arie. I do not think India is unattractive though. She's just not really sexy looking. |

I agree that Alicia Keys is actually pretty (very beautiful) and that, no, it has nothing to do with her skin color - which is refreshing. The fact that she's also talented makes her stardom all the nobler.
And India’s sex appeal is different…much more earthy and erotic. I think we don’t see her that way because we’re not used to seeing black women as sexual beings. |

Actually it only further proves my point that good looks is what grants you access to the Pop/mainstream audience (Alicia Keys) while India Arie is still stuck in the Neo-Soul/R&B category. Alicia Keys has crossover appeal (lookswise) & has grabbed a more mainstream audience unlike India Arie. Keys has done successful Pop collaborations with Usher, the hit song "My Boo" which is a mixture of Pop/R&B.
You don't seem to interpret what Pop music is--which is short for Popular music; meaning that once your record sells hit a crossover status, you are labeled a "Pop" artist which is what Alicia Keys is. And India Arie is not. That goes back to what I was trying to tell you previously that good looks are a key factor in the industry. If Alicia didn't look the way she did, her audience wouldn't be so broad.
Beyonce's first album "Dangerously In Love" is pure R&B yet she and her music is labeled "Pop" because she is a huge crossover success. Her music is placed in a different genre now. |

It does not come secondary. It comes FIRST. Which is why Alicia Keys was able to surpass India Arie in record sales and overall success. That's why Keys is (Pop) and Arie is still (R&B/Neo soul).
This generation is all about MUSIC VIDEOS--which is largely based on style and good looks. The industry knows young girls want to emulate pretty women which is why Britney Spears, and Beyonce Knowles are so successful at their craft. |

When Foxy Brown and Lil Kim made their debut, Hip Hop as a whole was not a huge crossover hit as it is now. Still, they both achieved great success for that time using what they knew best sex and their 'good looks'. And eventually over time, the ladies popularity faded and others were ready to pick up where they left off.
And you keep naming the exception and not the rule. Missy Elliot has defied all traditional norms in the entertainment industry, she found a formula that works for her, but this hasn't caught on to the industry as a whole--there aren't hoards of fat, unattractive aseuxal looking women snagging record deals at the same rate as a Trina, Jacki-O, Khia and Remy Ma who all use sex and their looks to sell records. Missy Elliot is not the norm. |

There's no such thing as a norm. It takes a combination of things to become a success in show business. It's all about star quality and that is an intangible and is not necessarily grounded in great beauty. Not to mention what a factor luck and connections play in the the process. And since you are a brownbeauty and don't seem to have a lot of talent, should we be looking for you to come out with a hit album anytime soon and should we be waitin with baited breath for the release of your first video????? Dude, they didn't even have radio stars by 1980--that song sucked, like everything that came out that year. I remember it well. What bullshit. I discovered Duke Ellington and never looked back.
BTW all the radio stars were killed off in the 1950s; Janet Jackson is totally overrated and YES Mariah Carey has six or even seven octaves, because I heard for myself this chick hitting higher than a triple G, even up to quadruple B flat. Goofy. |

Funny, I post on another site, and the youngsters over there love JJ. Maybe it's because they think she is copying Brittany Spears, instead of the other way around. LOL.
Also JJ's marketing efforts have been superb. JJ is (half naked) everywhere. So even though this CD is weak, all it takes is an aggressive marketing campaign to make people pay attention. I truly believe all artists, writers, painters, etc. need to pay more attention to marketing. Quality, it seems, doesn't really matter.
