Why should we support this rich celebrity who is a part of the shallow pop culture and whose chief asset seems to be a talent for being able to swear really well. What makes him somebody who merits our support. Oh, I forgot. chrishayden likes him so that automatically elevates him to iconic status.

I like Samuel L., though I think he's regressed as an actor. Though I find the whole concept of the movie to be pretty ridiculous, I still might sneak away for a few hours to see it, if, perhaps, for no other reason on the off-chance that I'm proven wrong.

I'll be supporting him because he AFFIRMS black women by marrying one. I hate crowded theaters though--especially on opening night--so I'll be buying his movie when it comes out on DVD.

That's not support, TONYA.

Only the opening weekend box-office really counts.

You need to go to a "matinee" afternoon screening and support the movie. :-)

My bad. I thought DVD sales had become almost as important as opening night.

The opening weekend box-office is what determines if they will make more films with BLACK LEADS.

Fri, Sat. and Sun. the first weekend is CRUCIAL if you want to help a star in Hollywood.

If a movie had Halle Berry, Vivica Fox or Angela Bassett in it---I used to be there ON OPENING WEEKEND--to make sure more films featuring black women get made.

I now live too far away from the city to keep that up.

I think Samuel is a decent actor (only watched him years ago in one movie) --but he's way too hard on the eyes for me to pay to see one of his movies on the "big" screen! That's scary!

You know, MOONSIGNS...

I was always a huge fan of Dustin Hoffman, Humphrey Bogart and James Earl Jones----but I never watched their films because they were "cute".

Al Pacino is ugly to me. But he's a fascinating actor.

My favorite actress of all time, Bette Davis, was never considered a raving beauty----but you couldn't pay me to watch those awful movies starring Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardener when I could be watching Bette Davis in "All About Eve", "Of Human Bondage", "Dark Victory" and "Now Voyager".

Marilyn Monroe, Diana Ross and Brenda Sykkes were the only "event beauties" (glamorous women I just HAVE TO SEE no matter what} in a movie.

There are some stars you go to see because they can ACT and put on a performance. They're LARGER THAN LIFE.

Samuel L. Jackson, for many of us, is one of them.

^^^^^That's cool, Kola. As an actor, I just don't have those feelings for Samuel.

Tonya:

You dirty dusty dingy white bitch. Nobody asked you what‘s pleasing to your beady eyes. If looks were the case--especially when it comes to talented male actors--Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, and Clint Eastwood would not have been able to grace their audience with the stellar performances that they presented with so much poise. Only a nitwit like you would overlook true art for the pretty face of a buffoonish gigolo that wouldn’t give a low-life like you the spit from the bottom of his shoe. Go fuck yourself you filthy piece of trash.

Kola I prepared my post before I saw yours so you know we think too much alike, lol.

I find it interesting that Moonie thinks Lauryn Hill is soooo exquisite but finds Samuel Jackson unattractive. Not saying that all black folks look alike but, to me, his looks aren't any more off-putting than hers. I still find Lauryn an odd looking little creature, whereas to me Samuel Jackson possesses a bold look that is not altogether lacking in appeal. But, - as they say, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

I don't find Samuel L. attractive either. WTF is wrong with that? Give me Dennis Haysbert and Isaiah Washington any damn day. I don't even think Samuel L. is that great of an actor. Andre Braugher and Don Cheadle are much, much better.

Go on back to jockin Samuel Jackson, chrishayden, as you reveal yourself to be just as star struck as you accuse the rest of us celebrity-watchers of being. You're a big phony.

My, my --what would warrant such a tongue-lashing?!?! We all know who hasn't walked on her treadmill today --or had enough cigarettes!

You better light it up and get to stepin' so you can bring that "pressure" down!

Cynique,

To me, Samuel, like Earth Kitt, looks like a Pekingese lap dog. And, I never got over seeing him in movies as anything other than the crack-head he portrayed in 'Jungle Fever'. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

The movie seems to have an almost juvenile premise. If anyone sees it, tell me if it's good and I'll consider seeing it.

*wink*
