Just surfacing after the worst storm and the longest power outage in St. Louis history--as similar power disasters occur in California and NYC I wonder is this our future?

More later.

I'm so sorry to hear this Chris. It's been in the news but I didn't think the power outages affected all of St Louis. And it didn't even occur to me that you had taken a hit. I can't imagine being without electricity for several days - that must have been a nightmare especially with the heatwave to contend with as well. You know you have an open invitation to come to Texas - you are always welcome here

Chris,

Here's hoping you and yours pull through things okay.

If things get REAL ruff, take Mzuri up on her invitation. And don't worry: 'Cause what happens in Texas STAYS in Texas.

ChrisHayden why didn't you wear a tin foil hat during the storm. I'm sure that would have made everyone on this board very happy.

You know funny thing:

Now that it's over (for me at least. There are still people without power almost a week later) it seems like it wasn't that bad.

Then I am probably blotting from my mind that day the temperature was up above 100 degrees and we had no power--boy that was something. All you could do was find a cool place in the basement and zone out.

I did notice I enjoyed reading a lot better--when I had light. Often when I read I got on the radio, tv other noise. It was quiet.

500,000 people without power. There are questions being asked. Why so many so long?

There are ugly rumors floating--that they turned on the power in the white areas first, that they made sure it didn't go out in the downtown and central corridor, that most of the power was knocked out by lines downed by falling branches and the power company had cut the tree trimming out of their budget.

Just a word to the wise, friends. Try and get on top of this in your own communities--getting ready for such outages and getting on the power company's ass about dealing with such an emergency and preventing it--

Have flashlights, canned and packaged food and bottled water on hand.

Mzuri:

Thanks for the invite--but it gets even hotter down there, don't it?

Rachel:

There's dead folks they ain't even found yet. The hospitals were full of heat stroke and people just losing their minds from the power being out.

At first I would sit in the dark and start seeing things. That stopped but it was eerie looking out the window or standing on the porch and seeing nothing but black.

Kola:

Thanks. Whatever happens I will be fine.

Serenasailor:

I am the devil and you are my disciple.

Chris - Glad you made it thru. Yes it gets hot down here but only during the summer months. The temps don't often go over 100° and it's mostly a dry heat so it's bearable and plus we're all used to it. You'd like it here :-)

Glad you're ok Chris. And yes, we've been notified of the potential for rolling blackouts in L.A. County, if not worse.
