Mariane Pearl may not have a problem with Jolie playing her, but I do!

I lusted after Pitt for years. After viewing a photo showing how little his dick was, I was horrified and my affection waned. Now, knowing that jerk is thinking with his penis and not his head -- and has his chick, Angelina Jolie, cast to play Mariane Pearl -- fuck that li'l dick bastard.

Dating African-descended, mixed race and AA females -- and/or adopting an African baby -- does not give either of them the right to fudge the damn truth!

Beyond being annoyed by Jolie being hailed for an attribute that has long been common among African-descended females and derided -- and because Jolie hardly had the most sexiest lips at that -- I still never had a problem with her even if she is not the best actress around.

Beautiful face, nice boobs, disgusting body and flat ass, but loved her humanitarian efforts and applauded her adopting.

But Jolie playing Mariane Pearl? Fuck that shit! This ain't the fuckin' 1930's, 40's or 50's when white women (i.e. Jeanne Crain, Helen Morgan then Ava Gardner, or Susan Kohner) were cast to play African-descended mixed race females in Pinky, Showboat and Imitation of Life...to appease!

Mariane Pearl is not white. She was born in France and Jolie is part French-Canadian, but Mariane is a napcurl-headed, mixed race, African descended, part ethnic Latina and Chinese etc. non-white woman. They could have cast Halle, Kerry Washington, Meagan Good, Rosario, Milian, Leal, Patton, Thandie or any number of females for this part...not a white woman!

here are some pictures of mariane pearl

Misty,

Pardon my lack of empathy for what you've presented here. But I struggle to discern why Marianne Pearl - White, Black, Latina or ALL - warrants special attention to begin with. This whole thing has from the git-go appeared to me an example of the press quite blantantly INFLATING their own presense in this (fallacious) War Against Terrorism.

Marianne's husband is alleged to have been murdered by terrorists, babe. THAT's the only reason you and I have ever even HEARD of her to begin with.

Would you have had a problem with THAT selection?

Misty - Why not take a cue (or should that be clue?) from the IHATEBEYONCESNEWVIDEO ppl and start a petition? Perhaps if you collect enough signatures, say five million, the studio heads will take note and cast someone whom you deem more appropriate for this role. And since I can't stand Jolie anyway, I'll be the first to sign.

ABM - I must agree that this entire story was never newsworthy. And I have absolutely no sympathy or compassion for anyone (particularly reporters) who put themselves in harm's way. Mr. Pearl was aware of the dangers before he entered the warzone, he did so anyway, and then when things went awry the rest of us were supposed to feel remorseful. The way I remember it, Mr. Pearl seemed happy he was captured and for the attention that it brought to the story. Whatever the story was supposed to be, I haven't a clue.

I wish Howood would come up with something original and interesting besides the re-telling of old stories that we already know the ending of. WTF is the point of going to a movie, but you already know the entire plot before you even get there???

I have tried for years to get Negroes to stop watching television.

They won't do it. Instead they sit like bumps on a log watching a medium that has never done anything but spread lies and garbage about them screaming like a stuck pig (every other day) when they are slandered by it.

Now here this: Negroes don't own the tv networks or the big sponsors. We are not the bulk of the audience. It has never been any good and it won't be any good and you should quit watching it--

But, gol darnit, you don't seem to have the will power to turn it off.

Y'know, I have been too hard on white folks. They are more merciful than I give them credit.

If I was white I would run The Birth of a Nation and Amos and Andy and dare you to do a damn thing about it.

I have to admit that i wouldnt have a problem with vivica fox playing the role however vivica fox WOULD look funny playing the part of a biracial black woman who's latina and rosario dawson would be more fit to play the role. But no i wouldnt have as much of a problem with it as i do with jolie playing her part.

Especially when i still see black latinas as more black than white. In fact they ARE black to me the only problem i run into is that most dont see them as black and they dont even see THEMSELVES as black or biracial.

Plus when i look at the fact that biracial americans and afro-latinas pretty oftenplay black american womens roles all the time my level of indifference rises even more.

I've NEVER seen it the other way around where they would have someone like vivica fox playing the part of a blakc latina or a biracial woman...never.

so no i wouldnt be angry if vivica played her part but it wouldn't LOOK right...it would jsut look funny. as i said rosario dawson or that sanchez woman who plkayed in white men cant jump would look better playing the part.

sorry that was a mistake on my part instead of saying sanchez i meant to say rosie perez from white men cant jump would have looked better playing that part.

Halle berry or that biracial woman from woman from crash (cant think of ehr name right now)would have looked ok playing that part as well. I think they would ahve looked better than both angelina or vivica playing it.

be right back

Maria favors Halle Berry more than any other biracial actress that I can think of right now.

And I agree with Misty. Vivica Fox is not fit for that role because she looks nothing like Maria who is multiracial.

Mzuri,

I don't know whether I'd go as far as suggesting Mrs. Pearl was HAPPY her husband had been kidnapped and killed. But I DO think ol' girl was enjoying the screen time and attention she was getting (which is sorta akin to what Anne Coulter accused some of the 911 widows of).

I give reporters A LOT of credit for taking chances to get to the heart of the story. But I consider what happened to Daniel Pearl to be an occupational hazard, not unlike a police man getting shot or a fireman getting killed in a fire. Certainly we appreciate and honor their sacrifice. But I don't think that that warrants a million-dollar book and movie deals.

Misty,

See. My problem with your response to my Vivica A Fox selection is Jolie might LOOK as much or MORE like Marianne than Vivica does.

So one could argue that YOU'D perpetuate the same fallacious game that White foks have asserted.

Honestly. As purely a matter of ART, I have ZERO problem with a White person portraying a Black person, and vice versa. My only problem is that you're much LESS likely to see a Black person portraying a White person than you will see the reverse.

Chris,

Maybe us po' kneegrows is jes as dum' as massah sez we is.

as i said earlier i do see biracial people as black and black hispanics as black, ESPECIALLY more black than white.

and why would i want jolie playing a black womans role when whites get tons more roles than blacks she can ALWAYS get another role but will a black be able to?

so really, what game would i supposedly be triyng to perpetuate?

I initially thought Mrs Pearl was Jewish too. I guess that's why, at least visually, I don't really see much wrong with Jolie portraying her.

I think the reason blacks here see anyone without strong Euro features, with a little tint to their skin and bit of a curl to their hair as black is they still embrace the one-drop rule. And we are all accustomed to that. But I've read that in Hispanic countries even if they are in the same family or siblings, a dark skinned person can be considered black but the light one can be considered white. And if the dark people have money they can purchase “white” papers and be officially considered white too. So their standards for blackness are a lot different then here. They would probably be insulted for someone considered black to play that woman. So I'm sure by getting someone considered white in America to portray her they are playing to to the verson of racist class system Hispanics adhere to. Angelina Jolie or just about any white person on earth could be a quadroon, etc. Look at Mariah, and she has a fully black parent. We must keep in mind race is just a social construct and stick to honoring our African features because that's what dictates how we are treated or respected. And that is why we are "black"; to lose sight of that and submit to embracing anybody under that label is to submit to further banishment from public representation.

Brownbeauty,
In a picture I saw of her father in Ebony magazine a long time ago he was relatively dark brown with normal African phenotype facial features and kinky hair, hardly characteristic of a bi-racial. But if we apply the one drop rule when it’s convenient I guess all the dark skins with kinky hair will be called mixed and all the Mariah types will just be considered black. It's just a labeling game anyway. My point was there’s always a strong chance someone with a white parent can comes out with predominately white features.

Right ABM, that's my MAIN problem with it. Not only is this true in the case of blacks and whites but its true even in the case of "biracials" and "blackks" is it fair....because like i said in an earlier post. You NEVER see a "black" play a biracial but you DO often see a biracial play a black. this is also one of the reasons i wooldnt be angry if vivica fox played her part. I wouldnt be angry BUT it STILL wouldnt look right. she wouldnt suite the role in the same way a woman like rosie perez would.

Well then, what does that tell you about jews?

they are also of mixed racial heritage especially since its been proven time and time again that the first jews were black. so today you're seeing a more mixed version of jews. but again, this is a group of people who would NEVER identify with being black and all they ahve to do is claim jewish ethnicity and no one would see them as biracial. so eventhough they are what we would consider biracial if we're speaking in racial terms, i still wouldnt consider them black or biracial in the same way i would consider mariane.

jews are even FARTHER lost when it comes to identifying with blacks than hispanics are. at least you have some hispanics who would consider themselves multiracial at least burt jews see themselves as "ethnic whites."

Marianne Pearl:

Lonette McKee:

I agree Mrs. Pearl does favor Jungle Fever's Lonette McKee. Only problem with casting McKee would be (I think) she's old enuff to be Pearl's mother.

Though (again) I am still hardpressed to divine WHY the life and experiences of Marianne Pearl warrants being made into a movie, I understand and appreciate why the unfairness by which more African-looking Black women have been excluded from screen roles affect how you view the casting of her.

Misty,

I consider the majority of contemporary jews/Israelis white as well. Culturally and phenotypically I see little to no difference between the majority of them and other whites. Therefore I don't see anything wrong with them not identifying with blacks because there is practically nothing African about them. I think it would be disrespectful to black people if they called themselves black.

As far as the original jews and black jews well that's another story but this woman is not amongst them. Honestly I'm also assuming that she's Jewish at all. Please understand that black to me means 100%. I understand that many Americans have a different definition but I'm not American.
