Most of them said that Black men were responsible for their own plight.
Most of them also said that the economic system is stacked against black men.
How can this be? |

I don't think these are mutually exclusive. Yes the system is weighed against Blacks. But the bottomline is it's most up each and every individual BM to fail or succeed. |

As usual you missed it.
When they said that Black men were responsible for their own plight, they were talking about all the other black men.
When they were talking about the economic system, they were talking about themselves.
Just more of the old Double Consciousness Syndrome. |

Good point. It's easy to look at yourself through rose-colored glasses and be critical of others facing the same things. As black people in general we are all facing opposition. Sometimes from each other. |

im dead serious. tell me what plight the "black men" of america, jamaica, columbia, peru, equador, brazil, panama, trinidad, cuba, puerto rico, the bahamas, etc are suffering from? do not ALL nations on earth have a certain percentage of people who have problems? so please someone (misty) explain what this "plight" black men are responsible for constitutes? and if "black men" are suffering from this "plight", are "black women" also responsible for and suffering from this "plight" also? |

i still have no got an answer to the question are the black men in the west indies, central, and south america responsible for this alleged "plight" also? what about the male children of black jamaicans, columbians, panamanians, dominicans, cubans, trinidadians, brazilians, puerto ricans etc, that are born in the united states? are they responsible for some kind of "plight" aswell? and if black men are responsible for this alleged plight, are black women responsible too?
nothing that has been posted on this thread proves anything. it only illusrates that certain INDIVIDUALS have certain issues they are dealing with. 15 year old alleged facts from 3 or 4 states in th U.S. doesn't prove a thing. all of this rhetoric is used to turn the black man into some kind of social menace, dividing our people. just because a handful of bitter black women want to try and bash black men with lies and sweeping generalizations, i just don't see the evidence of this "plight". and if the evidence is there, then black women MUST be in the same boat. |

Lil_ze who the hell said black men were social menaces in this particular thread...YES black men and black women BOTH suffer from a plight from being black in every contenent.
why the hell would you think someone was saying only black men suffer from a plight...has descrimination, racism and classism ever come to mind Lil_ze? And yes we ourselves ARE partly responsible for our own plight. But blaming ourselves still doesnt tell the whole story
come on now...it shouldnt have to be spelled out...you should already know this from experience being black.

somethng i dont understand is who was even bashing black men in this thread and who was denying that black women face a plight of our own?
some people are either too sensetive (perhaps because of past comments that have been made on ths board, which is understandable) or they simply like to start mess where there is none...LOL
for someone to pretend to be oblivious to the fact that black men all over the world face a plight simply because they misinterpreted a thread is to willfully deny reality.
I beleive howard roark presented a very informative and detailed post as to why he felt that black men face a plight. Now if someone still doesnt get an answer to their question after that then i dont know what to say. |

i never said black people were not catching hell. our nation was enslaved and sold throughout north,south, and central america. so of course i know what the deal is regarding our people and our state of affairs. my point was that this thread was started asking the question "were black men responsible for their plight". i felt this was an unfair question, because it pins all of the problems that face our people on "black men" alone. i was playing a bit of devil's advocate, by asking people to explain how "black men" are responsible for our people's situation. i don't need to be taught about our peoples position and/or situation in this world. and again, if black men are "facing plight" as some of these posters have stated, then black women are facing the same "plight", and are just as "responsible" as "black men" are for this. |

Why don't you use your head for more than a hatrack? The survey was of black men and it was of what they thought. There is no reason to drag black women into it at all.
This is incredible. Supposedly on a black site like this on the internet you are getting the best and most intelligent blacks but if this is what they think our plight is much worse than any of us ever thought. |

ok, chrishayden, i guess you are saying black men and black women are two separate entities. of course there is a reason to bring (not drag) black women into this disscussion. if black men can be surveyed and asked "are they responsible for their plight", then its totally fair to ask if black women are also responsible for "their" plight as well.
also why do you chrishayden assume that on a site like this one, you are getting the most intelligent blacks? many of the posters on this board appear to be about as unintelligent as it gets. many posters simply recite word for word positions and opinions that have been spoon feed to them by the powers that be. |
