As we all know (except Rustand and Cynique--that was a purely gratutitous dig) there is no law against being drunk--the law is against being drunk and driving.

Why is Patrick Kennedy, a Congressman, a wealthy man, driving himself anywhere?

Them Kennedy's--some of them anyway--are out of it.

There are laws about public intoxication even if you're not driving. But he should have definitely called a cab or a limousine. He was supposedly driving under the influence of prescription medication but the police report says he smelled of alcohol. I knew something was fishy when it took the family past 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time to get their story straight yesterday. So now he's in rehab at the Mayo Clinic. Kennedys always find a way out of their crazy situations, don't they?

What a moron. You, Chris. Not Kennedy.Being drunk is against at least one law anywhere other than the privacy of your own home or a private club in which you are either a dues paying member or the guest of a dues paying member. Here in Houston the police have started going into bars and clubs and arresting people for public intoxication.Just because they don't roust the drunken male prostitutes, such as yourself, out of those massage parlors you frequent doesn't mean that this is how it works everywhere. That's just a case of them really, really prefering not to know what's going on.

That fat ugly crack head - with his old-fashioned parted to the side hair do - ran down a gang of capitol police--resulting in a treacherous, horrifyingly gruesome NEAR HIT.

And all we want to know is why he was driving himself, ohh--kay.

Of course I understand your position, Chris. But where's the embarrassing photos.... You can't TELL ME there's not one of THAT ugly nigga.

Also, they showed footage of him shoving an authority figure. It may have been one of those capitol police--AND--it may have happened on a separate occasion, I could be wrong though; they only showed a split second on CNN.

I did see him shoving somebody, however. It was HARD, with his HAND; not gently with a pink, fluffy, furred CELL PHONE; what's up with that?? Where's his mug shot--both literally and figuratively. Why wasn't he booked, and why isn't his leather-faced, double-chinned, Opie-haired picture on this thread?

Do anyone have the full story of this shoving, by the way--

I couldn't find a shred of it on the web.

Rustang you ingorant son of a bitch:

Houston is not the world. They don't pull that crap in here or for that matter any place where they have a bunch of panty waists with pink lace on their drawers like you.

Man up or die, sissy.

To all others:

(Please excuse my digression. I had to take out a piece of human garbage)

Them Kennedy's are a disgrace. If they weren't Kennedy's they wouldn't be within smelling distance of a public office. It's a shame because I agree with them on most of their positions.

This morning I heard the full story on Patrick and it is obvious he is a dope fiend and a drunk--kind of makes it hard to slam George Bush for this and the Democrats are obviously protecting one of their own.

We have had enough of the Kennedy's, Bushes, Clintons and Reagans if there are any more of them.

Is it illegal to "be" drunk in public?

Or is it illegal to publically display EVIDENCE of drunkeness?

If the former is true, there should have been, like, 50 MILLION Americans incarcerated last night.

Abm:

You being a man you know Three drinks or more in an hour--three beers, three four ounce glasses of wine, three once ounce shots of booze will take most people, depending on body weight and metabolism, above most legal limits for driving while intoxicated. You can be charged with DWI even though you are perfectly unimpaired.

Three such drinks will not intoxicate anybody who can hold his liquor, like you me or my Aunt Nancy.
Little poobuts who smell the cap and start performing a strip tease in a camisol (ie Rustang) undoubtedly would beg to differ.

He might not get a pass afterall:

Officer Disciplined in Kennedy Crash
Investigation Continues as Congressman Enters Mayo Clinic

May 5, 2006 — - Capitol Police have taken disciplinary action against a watch commander for the handling of Rep. Patrick Kennedy's car accident, acting Capitol Police Chief Christopher McGaffin said.

McGaffin said the incident was improperly delayed due to "poor judgment" on the part of police managers and that a field sobriety test should have been administered to Kennedy after his car hit a barrier near the Capitol at 2:45 a.m. on Thursday.

The police report said Kennedy was speeding and his eyes were "red and watery." It also stated that his speech was slightly slurred and that upon exiting his vehicle his balance was "unsure."

Kennedy announced earlier today that he would enter the Mayo Clinic for treatment for addiction to prescription pain medication.

There are questions about why Kennedy was not given a sobriety test immediately after the accident.

"I would say within law enforcement that there is probably … concern that consideration was given a member of Congress that would not be afforded a normal citizen on the street," said Lou Cannon, president of the Fraternal Order of Police for the District of Columbia.

McGaffin would not elaborate on the disciplinary actions, but he did say "significant administrative and personnel corrective action has been taken." Other officers may be disciplined. No one has been fired at this point.

The report indicates alcohol may have played a role in the crash, but officers from the Capitol Police on the scene were apparently told by their supervisors to simply drive Kennedy home. Kennedy has said that he did not ask for special treatment.

A police officer in Los Angeles said it appears that standard procedures, which would include a field sobriety test if the driver was found to have bloodshot eyes or slurred speech, were not followed.

LAPD Detective Felix Padilla said if an officer suspects driving under the influence he has an "obligation to do that."

"We have a duty to the public to protect the public, and to ignore that would be neglect on our part," he said.

Kennedy has said he was not drinking but had taken the sleeping pill Ambien and another drug that can cause drowsiness. Experts say Ambien has been linked to so-called sleep driving -- where users are not even aware they are behind the wheel.

Kennedy has long struggled with depression and drug addiction and now the congressman admitted that he once again needs help.
