What do YOU have to replace it with--and don't come up with that old dinosaur music old folks listened to (and I am one who listens to James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, George Clinton, Howlin' Wolf and little else)

Hip Hop is just a pyramid, not an art. The few folks at the top are held up by the many minions (and dummies) at the bottom.

Complainers are not putting down hip-hop "in toto"; just the gangsta mysogynistic rappers. The music of other artists who consider themselves hip-hop like Usher and Alicia Keys and Mary J Blige and Maxwell does not need to be replaced.

Hip-Hop is only about 25 - 30 years old. It won't be replaced until almost all the producers, performers and/or consumers of hip-hop are NON-Black suburbanites. Then poor Black foks will invent another genre of music, like they did with hip-hop, R&B, Blues and Jazz in prior generations.

I still ain't heard nothing.

Kids just want something to shake their butts to and to seduce each other and make out to--just as they did when I was growing up and so it goes.

So what you got?

You didn't "hear nothing" because nobody posted what you wanted hear so you have to respond to what you hoped somebody would say. And, anyway, why do people have to defend not liking hip hop? If they don't likek it, they don't like it. So what?

Cynique:

I know I know. You still get the vapors when you hear that scandalous ragtime music on the player piano in the parlor during the ice cream socials.

You don't know squat, chrissy, with your ol square-assed, behind-the-times self. You're probably still wear leisure suits and white shoes and listen to the only 10 songs you ever heard of on an 8 track. And you have nerve enough to brag about how limited your taste in music is. watta nerd.

lol you guys need to stop.
hip hop is the shiznit, i'm glad it took over the way it did, i went to a predominatly white school and would have to hear guns n roses, tiffany, def leopard at the dances and get togethers until finally they started playing beastie biys, vanilla ice, and the same "rock this way" song by areosmith and run dmc ... i am glad. i wish that they would play more than the commercialized gangsta rap but what ever sales i guess.

I hate all these rappers who make baselessly offensive, baselessly vulgar, saccharine music and then expect people to respect hip-hop as an artform
