Has anyone heard this song? I am not my hair. This song should be played to all colorstruck BM. I jokingly called my brothers house and played this song for him.

I havent heard the song but since India.arie's hair is kinky which is the natural state of most black hair, is she denying her heritage by saying she's not her hair???? |

What "guys" are you referring to? Chris is the only one who's mentioned anything about being "catty" here.
I said I think Arie is pretty, that she's a good artist but the outfit she's wearing above doesn't fit her well. |

India Arie has the perfect sized head AND face for that hairstyle (which isn't all that common). Nevertheless, when women wear that kind of style they’re facial features (lips, nose, ect.) become more noticeable. I've observed that when women with similar shaped faces and more slender/Euro features wear that hairstyle, people don't have anything negative to say…not about their appearance anyway. So I wonder if people are responding unfavorably to India's very noticeable African features.

I agree: The short-cropped hair brings out India's gorgeous cheekbones, skin, smile and eyes. Plus it allows her to use her ear lobes as a canvas to basically display wearable art--in a way that the woman standing next to her in the photo above is unable to pull off with all the hair. |

I think India is beautiful--and I always have! I respect her for having the courage to cut off all her hair. And it's apparent that she is so comfortable with who she is and self-confidence is such an attractive quality--I love everything about her earthy and womanly style!

I think A LOT of Black women (their men) might be pleasantly SURPRISED by how beautiful they appear with LESS hair, ESPECIALLY without all the perming, coloring and such. |

I said "LESS" hair. Not "sportin' a jordan".
But, in general, I think the more Black women straighten and perm their hair, the more they feed into the notion of and preference for non-Black hair...and beauty. |

It takes a special kind of woman to lay down with a impotent browbeaten indigent, too. But black women of several hair lengths--though mostly short tresses and baldies--have been pulling that off since slavery…much to their chagrin.

#1 on Billboard Albums Chart

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - For the second week in a row, a best new artist nominee of the 2002 Grammy Awards bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. As the soulful India.Arie celebrates the best chart week of her career, the most intriguing aspect of this triumph may well be the race that never developed.
First-day sales reported by chains when her "Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship" reached stores the same day as Dashboard Confessional's "Dusk and Summer" led chart prognosticators to predict that both albums would start in the neighborhood of 150,000, suggesting the two were running neck and neck.
While both acts achieved their best-yet Nielsen SoundScan weeks, this was far from a photo finish.
India.Arie easily exceeded the 150,000 threshold, earning her second No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and her first on the big chart with a start of 161,000 copies. Dashboard beat its previous best frame by about 10 percent, but closed well shy of first place with 134,000 sold.
Those are the only two albums on the chart to sell more than 100,000, although last week's chart champ, Nelly Furtado, comes close at 99,000 (No. 3, down 55 percent).
How did India.Arie turn what looked to be a close race into a laugher? The answer boils down, in part, to who buys what and how they buy it.
