Hey all,
There's a popular white ABC radio host in Chicago named Roe Conn.
He spent more than an hour of his show yesterday trashing Kola Boof and a lot of black women called in to take up for Kola.
In fact, a famous black woman author who knows Kola Boof (I don't know who, because I didn't hear the show) is supposed to have called in and put him in check.
Apparently, a lot of black folk in Chicago got upset when he made the comment that in older photographs, Kola Boof used to look like "the rest of the starving Africans".
Conn did say that he believes Kola is telling the truth about being Osama's mistress and he said that he would like to date Kola Boof after reading the sex scenes in her autobiography.
Conn apologized this morning or something.
That's as much as I know, but it's supposed to have been a big deal in Chicago yesterday.

WOW!!
Kola's been cited by Roe Conn? Hey. That's HIGH PRAISE for Kola, in my book.
Conn's perhaps my favorite local radio personality. He's a pretty hilarious guy.
Yeah. He makes fun of Black culture. But it's seldom malicious. It's actual more sort of tongue-in-cheek flattery, than anything else.
Some of Conn's imitations of Michael Jackson deserve inclusion in the Radio Hall of Fame.
And Conn's got a fairly strong local BLACK fanbase. So by mentioning Kola in jest, dude's probably done a lot more GOOD for Kola...than harm. |

He talked about her for more than hour, ABM, so I'm surprised you missed it.
He supposedly started out negative but after a lot of black women called in taking up for Kola, he ended up saying he believes Kola's story and wants to date her.
At least he took the time to actually read her autobiography.

I don't always get a chance to catch Conn's show. DAYAM. I hate I missed it.
His radio station often rebroadcast some of his more lively and popular segments. Maybe I'll catch it later.
Conn actually appear to be a fairly good guy. He's not really much at all of the (racid) Howard Stern ilk. |

I live around Chicago and read both of its newspapers, and I saw nothing about this brouhaha. Roe deliberately and routinely tackles any subject that is controversial and which will light up the phone lines of his call-in talk show. And in my role as villain I utter a hardy HA-HA. |

I have been listening to Roe Conn for years (including when he partnered with Gary Meyers). I not only read the Sun-Times & Tribune. I SUBSCRIBE to them.
And I have seldom witnessed Conn's "brouhahas" - which are frequent and often legend - reported in either of those 2 papers.
Hell. The shtick Conn did on Michael Jackson during the height of Jackson’s child abuse trial ALONE was raucous enuff to garner front page news, assuming, of course, the Chicago papers didn't have BETTER things to do. |
