I read a rebuttal of Bill Cosby’s recent The Sistahs Bettah Fend For Themselves Commencement speech at All-female HBCU Spellman College. The article noted, amongst other things, that nearly HALF of the graduates of the All-male HBCU Morehouse College graduated with HONORS (Btw: Isn’t THAT - NOT the exploits of Fitty Cents and LaBron James - the kind of thing that should be splattered over EVERY Black oriented publication produced in this COUNTRY?).
I wonder how much Morehouse being All-male factors into how well its students perform.
And I wonder if many more Black males might greatly benefit from attending All-male schooling from, say, middle school (studies suggest the academic regression of Black boys begin at around 5th grade) to through their undergraduate education.
Notable Observations:
@ Morehouse and Spellman are brother-sister schools.
@ Cosby is on Morehouse’s Board of Trustees.
@ The author of the Cosby rebuttal is a Black FEMALE.

I think Black males (and males in general) would benefit from attending all-male schools. I feel females would be better off to attend all female schools, too. And though my other point is a tad off topic it's still relevant. I wouldn't expect this to be implented on university level, but I think all public schools (k-12) should require their students to wear (modest) uniforms. It has the great potential to eliminate unnecessary distractions.

No. Makes no difference.
Morehouse is an elite institution that has the best students and a tradition of producing the Black elite.
As I understand it, neither Morehouse nor Spellman are totally one sex anymore, unless I am mistaken.
Howard U. and many other all black instituions do a fine job of educating their students even though they educate women and men.
Who posted this? Abm? Hmm. He favors all male institutions for black males. Probably because sex crazed cocaine addicted negroes can't keep their hands off women.
You think it would be different in an all male situation.

Anybody who voluntarily attends an all-boys school is obviously someone who is serious about his education, and in my opinion the atmosphere at an all male school is more conducive to the focus and concentration necessary to perform well. In a several of cases that I have heard about, when an all-male school converted to co-ed, the male students have howled in protest, not wanting females to intrude on their turf. |

It hasn't hurt Harvard or Radcliffe one bit--it hasn't hurt any of the colleges or universities that one time banned all women.
This debate went out with high button shoes--but then again Cynique has a closet full, as well as corsets and bustles.

How do you know it hasn't hurt Harvard or Radcliff, chrishayden? You ain't never graced the hallowed halls of these grand ol institutions except maybe as a fly on the bathroom wall. There's something to be said for traditions. And just recently, not one but 2 all-boys schools in my area switched over to co-ed inspite of a vigorous campaign by the male students to stop this. BTW, you're probably one of the few people of this board who knows what a bustle is and that's because you have vintage female clothing stashed away in your dresser drawer, outfits which when you put them on and preen yourself in front of a full length mirror have the same affect as viagra thereby enabling you to perform on your blow-up doll. |

I agree that Morehouse is probably NOT the best example to use to promote uni-sex schooling. I referred to it here mostly because it inspired within me quesitions and thoughts about how the current schools should be modified.
I recently read in a local newspaper that only about 2% of the current population of male African American Chicago Public School students will have earned a bachelors degree by their 25th birthdays. So if you have ANY ideas that are better than uni-sex schooling, we're all eyes & ears over here.
However, first do us all a favor: Take your manic-depressive medication...PRONTO. 'Cause, dude, some of the shyt you're saying here's just flatout NUTS. |

most of the girls that i knew who went to all girl schools became whores in college. but i guess while they're in class maybe they could concentrate a little better. i don't know... i'm glad i didn't go to an all guys school. serena-sausageswallowing-sailor would probably like to teach at one though. |
