I don't think that either one of their images are good for the health or spirits of young women (black, white, or other), because it's impossible for most young women to fit into these images, and it's often dangerous for them to try (e.g. harsh diets, cosmetic surgeries, skin bleaching, ect), which they are constantly being pressured to do. That said, who these women are on the inside, their personalities and how they carry themselves during interviews, for example, are some of the things that make them perfect role models, imo. Beyonce seems to be a sweet, compassionate, matronly young woman who is appreciative of what she has and respectful toward others. Alicia, imo, is a smart, independent, self-assured sista, who is proud of a womanhood that she is determined to protect and have respected. She's a leader, the type of woman we want our girls to be. Both ladies seem to have a strong sense of humanity--they seem to genuinely care about other people - their families, their communities, ect. Because of who the ladies are, I wish that younger women (and women in general) were being inspired to be more like them rather than being pressured to look like them, being burdened and bombarded by their difficult to achieve and impossible to sustain images. In a perfect world, young women would be exposed to who these ladies are; so in a perfect world, I think they would be perfect role models. | ||

You put that together quite well, Tonya. Although, I have to agree with Moonsigns to the extent that Beyonce isn't a good role model. Beyonce is so wooden to me. There is absolutely nothing behind her eyes. It's as if she sold her soul to the devil for fame. She doesn't seem like a *real* person to me because she has this constant pageant stance about her--it never fails even in her candid shots. That's why I cannot totally find myself to liking her. And she does not have a big butt at all. It's crazy that she was able to build such hype around a butt that isn't even the least bit big. I just wish her friend Kelly would get her own voice and try to make a real career for herself. She seems so content with being Beyonce's little puppet. | ||

Whitney is past her prime so most youth wouldn't be lookin' up to her anyway, even if she was clean. How is Beyonce any different from Mariah? Beyonce basically ripped her style 'the golden honey girl' look and tripled from it in profit--because she was younger, more in shape, and could move better. Everytime a woman critiques other women, men are so quick to say were are 'hating'. It's so obvious that Beyonce is her dad's prize horse--and they groom her quite well. | ||

I don't believe that young women or any child should be looking for role models in the entertainment field. There are many decent, hardworking everyday people around for our kids to look up to. |
