Have any of you watched the show new show "Black. White.", produced by Ice Cube. I did (wife and kids coerced me into it). I think it aired on the Fox and the Disney channels.

Basically, you have a Black family (husband, wife and son) who is disguised to appear White or Whitened and White family (husband, wife and daughter) who is disguised to appear Black or Blackened. We and then witness whether and how they world treats them differently.

And I admit I enjoyed it more than I expected to.

My obsersations are below:

The White family appeared to enjoy appearing Black much more than the Black family enjoyed appearing White. The Blackened wife reveled in referring to her Blackened husband as “this BEAUTIFUL Black man” (I swear chick appeared to be getting jungle fever johnny on the spot).

Moreover, the Blackened White family looked more Black than the Whitened Black family appeared White. I guess being Black makes if difficult for me look past their obvious African characteristics, especially the Whitened wife. The Blackened daughter looked like a young Black hottie and appear to affect a genuine Black aura.

The White family in general appears to be more open to the possibility of learning than the Black family. The Black foks basically think that since Black foks have to understand and maneuver around/through the White world, they pretty much know what to expect.

I don't know what I found more annoying:
A) The White husband alleged inability to see in differences between the treatment of Black and White people.
B) The Black husband's utter consternation with the White husband (Hasn't he seen enuff of White guys to know how they can think and act?).

I can't help thinking parts of the show were staged:
1) When the brotha walking by on the streets hollas at the Blackened daugther. Dude appears to look dead into the presumably hidden camera immediately afterwards.
2) When the White bar patron quite proudly tells the Whitened husband that the neighborhood surrounding the bar was on of the few bations of Whiteness remaining in the area. I guess some White guys still do that kind of thing. But you've gottah be especially dumb/racist to do that after JUST meeting some guy.

I get the impression those scenes were done more for effect than authenticity.

And the Whitened son bared striking resemblance to Michael Jackson, which was made all the more hilarious because he sound like he is a Blood or a Crip.

I wanted to see that so bad but missed it, got confused about when it was supposed to air. I'll try not to miss it this week though.

You could be right about it being staged in this instance. But, as for whites not being dumb enough to express their opinions about race to just anyone. There have been occasions I was calling around about apartments when, not realizing I was black, several white women complained about how too many blacks had moved in. Whites also make no bones about their feelings about AA and openly express other negative stereotypes against blacks as fact on a routine basis. I think we’ve become so accustomed to being insulted by them we often can’t tell the difference anymore.

But the show sound hilarious and very interesting, I can't wait to check it out.

ABM - Oprah had these ppl on to discuss the show and their experiences as the "opposite" race. She showed several clips like the part when the blackened couple went to a bar/nightclub and the white bartender wouldn't give the woman a drink until she turned over her credit card, the husband was in the latrine and she was left looking (and feeling) awkward while waiting for him to return so she could get her drink on. The white lady later acknowledged that she would never have been treated that way as a white woman. There were some other noteworthy clips shown. And there seemed to be a lot of drama and tension between the participants in real life. I pretty much got everything I needed to know about the show from Oprah and can't nobody tell me about being Black in the U.S.A. so I haven't watched it. Interesting that it's produced by Ice Cube though. Thanks for sharing.
