Can a person who has come out of the closet as gay/lesbien change their mind?

I thought about this the other day.

To practice such a lifestyle...can you honestly go back to being straight, happy and not regreting your decision???

In answer to you question, Kaotic, I guess bi-sexual people can abandon their gay life. And, of course, there is this right-wing religious group who claim that they can turn gay people around, and that homosexuality is practiced behavior and all one has to do is to choose not to pursue this lifestyle. They claim they've had a good success rate but some of the people who they tried to cure later spoke out, saying that they were still attracted to the oppposite sex and they had to exercise tremendous will power to repress their urges, and that eventually they back-slid and went back to "The Life." The official stand of the American Psychiatry Association is that gayness has something to do with how the brain is wired and that this sexual orientation is usually present at birth and a recessive tendency in males can be triggered into a dominant one by their having a dysfunctional relationship with their fathers. Me, I think gays are a 3rd sex. Whew! "Got carried away, didn't I? And no, I'm not gay. LOL

By no means am I a lesbian....

but....from time to time I end up getting into heated conversations about gay/lesbians and if they are born with their sexual orientation or is it something learned....

.........I believe it has to be something they are born with because I have had friends in my childhood ( like 8-9 years of age) that were flaming then - hell they were outdoing me in the double dutch tournements - at that age how do you learn to be gay?

...the whole issue with the church and converting a gay person back to being straight is a whole bunch of crap.....

...to me the church is trying to convince you to be something that you are not by trying to convert an individual back to being straight.....

and that is the purpose for backsliding.....

If you are gay...raise your rainbow flag....march in your parades....pump up the Donna Summers cd and

Work it!

This one woman I know who happens to be gay, her most recent "girlfriend" just told her that she doesn't want to be with her anymore because she "discovered" she is no longer "gay".

Strange stuff.

That's what Anne Hecht did to Ellen DeGenerus, Moonie. I think nowadays a lot of people experiment with the gay lifestyle and then move on. Especially women who are no longer inhibited about giving full reign to their sexuality.

How does a "straight" woman pretend to be lesbian?

I've always wanted to be lesbian, but was unable to, so please explain it to me.

The affectionate/courting parts are easy to act out, because women are allowed to be effectionate anyway with other women....but the actual SEX.

I can't even kiss another woman on the mouth without my stomach turning.

I know many straight black women who pass themselves as lesbian to have love in their lives....but for the life of me, I haven't been able to figure out how they can have actual sex with other women.

Why is it so hard to figure out how lesbians make love? From what I've heard, they engage in oral sex, or the "butch" partner either straps on a dildo or uses her finger to penetrate her partner. On Showtime Cable TV there is a series called The "L" Word which centers around lesbianism. I watched a couple of times out of curiosity and it wasn't that compelling. And haven't we all heard that men is prison may hook up with a same sex partner during the duration of their term and then return to a heterosexual lifestyle once they are released.

Well, now, Moonie, you should be able to figure out that the reason you can't stomach the idea of engaging in lesbian sex is because you are not gay - or curious - or adventurous. LOL

I think that if you are homosexual, whether you were born that way or became that way, you could possibly try to live as a straight person - but you will always either be a homosexual or live with the memory that you once had a homosexual experience/relationship.

As far as your circle who knew about your sex life, they will always, always, always think of you as gay, faggot, lesbian, queer, carpet muncher or whatever. The homosexual may be able to forget about the homosexual behavior or tendencies, but the ppl they know will never forget about it. And they'll probably always talk about it, as is human nature.

So, the answer would be no - you cannot go back into the closet once you have come out. And if you are looking for happiness thru relationships - whether straight or gay - you will probably always be miserable. Either you're happy or you're not.

Your spirit of adventure is limited to the hereosexual realm, huh, Moonie? LOL Moving right along, it has also been noted that many women who have been molested as children later drift into the lesbian lifestyle. So I guess a lot of factors enter into the picture.

I'll bet some of those who go back have got tired of dealing with the flack--which can include physical assault.

A lot of my closest friends, women who are like "blood sisters" to me, are lesbian.

That's the difference between me and Moonsigns.

I'm not homophobic in the least--I've even partied (many times) at Gay Clubs with my gay friends--usually Men's gay clubs, though, where I was able to fit in the role that usually goes to the glamorous drag queen. I've partied with Luther Vandross and his beard, Lisa Fisher, at RAGE, STUDIO ONE and CATCH ONE, and I even sang "See What the Boys In the Back Room'll Have" one time.

I was just Miffed as I realized in my personal life that I wasn't able to "crossover".

I had to have the male body and especially the "penis", which I am addicted to. PLUS...there is a little girl side of me that craves affection/attention from men. I have to be accepted and loved by them, which is where the INTENSITY of a lot of my issues come from.

If men (Thomas, my father) don't cuddle, baby and protect me...then I can feel suicidal if it goes on too long.

And it really isn't sexual. I transferred a lot of that to ABM a few years ago. Which is why I seem to gravitate to very dominant men that I can't push around. I believe that I am fragile in a way...and that this is why I fettish men's approval/attention. I give sex in exchange for the myriad of feeling safe, accepted and protected.

Yet I wish I could be a lesbian to escape this dependency on men--because men are not loyal or as genuine as women are.

Can any other woman relate?

Anybody know anything on this?

LOL Kola. It took me years to conclude that Luther was gay. But I still love him nonetheless. I was listening to his CD's just this a.m. He was on Oprah about six years ago and he introduced his "personal trainer" with whom he was "traveling" and it just clicked. The trainer was so friggen sweet I thought, hmmmm why would Luther be traveling with someone so oooooooh - Luther is gay! LOL!

Anyway, I can relate to what you are saying about men. But I personally am not dependent upon men or anyone. I am completely self-sufficient. Financially and in all other ways. It would be in your best interest to not be dependent upon anyone. That way, no one can ever let you down.

I too have partied at gay clubs. Reason being - gay ppl know how to throw down and have a good time. You can get up and dance alone, with another girl, two girls or whatever and nobody passes judgement upon you as they would in a straight establishment.

Now here's my final word on all of this, and you'll either get it or you won't - but a person can have sex with someone of your own gender and NOT be gay. And I'm not going to discuss anything else about it so please don't ask :-)

Oh, Mzuri, I DEFINITELY believe this:

a person can have sex with someone of your own gender and NOT be gay.

I've always told people that. I know that's true.

I've often argued that just because Prison Inmates are having sex together---it doesn't mean they're gay.

The thing is...I don't like pussy or "soft skin" or women's bodies...and I believe that it's the inability to be attracted that makes it so impossible for me.

I did once meet the most gorgeous "MAN" who it turned out was a female transsexual--she had been turned into a male---and after knowing she had been a woman, I was incredibly attracted to her/him...having fantasies and all kinds of stuff. Of course, I never told her or attempted to get her attention--I discovered they have a PUMP to inflate the new penis. But I was hot for her AS A MAN. She was so tall and handsome and I melted whenever she said "Hi" to me.

Actually Ms. Kola - I was thinking of a much more casual and pleasant encounter than being in prison. I don't know about your prison theory. I haven't ever given it much thought. But if a man is in prison for 25 years having sex with other men, it doesn't necessarily mean that he is gay but wouldn't he then be conditioned into being gay. I mean, he could just as well go to prison and be celibate or masterbate, couldn't he? I don't know, those are just my thoughts.

You are definitely insecure, and the difference between you and me is not whether you have gay friends and I don't. The difference between you and me is, you're completely and totally dependent on men for your happiness, I'm not.

Moonsigns,

Your statement is OVERDRAWN.

I am more neurotic...than merely insecure.

And in a moment of exposing my vulnerability, I really resent you taking the time to assert your belief in your "superiority" over me.

My total happiness is not dependent on men. I would put my children before ANY man.

But, yes--I need men and I love men.

That is a supreme agony for me, because of the Feminist work I do, as I try to rescue and nurture my community and my people.

I am not SUPERWOMAN....and I don't understand you American women.

Kola:
"I am more neurotic....than merely insecure."

Moonsigns:
O.k.

Kola:
"And in a moment of exposing my vulnerability, I really resent you taking the time to assert your belief in your "superiority" over me."

Moonsigns:
Two things. First. Kola, after reading your previous post, you act as if you are "exposing" yourself for the first time--like people are stupid--like your insecurities have been "masked" until now. Everyone knows how vulnerable you are--and I don't consider your vulnerability as a sign of weakness. Second. Resent me all you want, you are the one who used the word "superiority", not me. I wasn't even thinking that. I just believe some women are taught, usually by their mother, that men are the end all to be all--that their ultimate goal in life is to be everything and anything that men want. I was fortunate enough to be birthed to a woman and raised by a woman who taught me otherwise. Most women aren't.

Kola:
"I would put my children before ANY man."

Moonsigns:
I would, too. It's nice to agree.

Kola:
"But, yes--I need men and I love men."

Moonsigns:
This is where we part. I may "want" men, but I don't "need" men. I can't say I "love" men. I love some men,but not men in general.

Kola:
"and I don't understand you American women."

Moonsigns:
I dont' think that this is an "American" issue, Kola. I know plenty of American women who feel just like you. You write all the time about raising a "new son"--but I think it's the other way around--women must raise a "new daughter".

On a side note, in your previous post, Kola, you wrote: "I give sex in exchange for the myraid of feeling safe, accepted and protected."

And then wrote in the most recent post: "But, yes--I need men and I love men......That is a supreme agony for me, because of the Feminist work I do, as I try to rescue and nurture my community and my people."

Moonsigns:
Being "safe, aacepted, and protected" are your right simply because of your gender. Sex is for pure pleasure and procreation. A true feminist would never barter sex in order that her basic, relational needs be met.

Because of a black MAN, I live on a million dollar ranch and don't have to work. He also gave me two beautiful sons.

It was a black man--Cornel Chesney--who heard me on the radio after my publisher was firebombed and my book put out of print.....he started a publishing company just for me!!

Troy Johnson, a black man, gave me my own discussion board--THE KOOL ROOM.

My agent, Nicholas, who is moving mountains in my career..is a black man.

Marvin Johnson, my father, adopted me and brought me to America. A black man.

I NEED MEN.

They've always been my winning hand.

Kola, American women have come to the conclusion that they don't need men, because they so often end up without one anyways, and can't just roll over and die.

Most homeowners in Jackson, MS, are women who've never been married (I can't speak for other areas). A lot of those buying the new homes in the Cascade area (where I live) are single women with children. After caring for children, buying a house, buying a car, having a career, etc., alone, it's normal that they come to the conclusion that they don't need men.

Kola,

You shouldn't feel ashamed for "NEEDING" a man, but either should women who don't feel the same as you.

At this point, though it is expected and typical of your nature, I still get a good laugh at some of the comments you make. For example, you so quickly call American women "bonkers"--as if your reasons for "needing" men are so sound and healthy. LMAO!

The insecure Ms. Boof is also inconsistent. It's almost like she's 2 people; or 3 - or 4. (Since we had to be subjected to yet another picture of her cow udders, I can no longer restrain myself. heh-heh)

Funny.

All the women I know who freely admit to needing men seem to manage to have some pretty good men in their lives.

And all the women I know who claim to not need a man ain't got no men.

Funny...

You obviously haven't heard any of my talk show interviews. I've given more than 150 in the last 2 years.....and I never say anything I don't mean.

You and Cynique just don't like me, and I....just don't give a fuck.

So make up all the lies you want about me. And I'll do the same to you.

Abm,

Consider that some women are extremely selective in choosing a mate as well as extremely self-confident--and just don't "need" a man so they can barter sex in order to feel safe, protected and accepted. A "wanting" woman can be self-sufficent, have a man--but not take care of man, and feel good about herself all-the-while.

There is a huge difference between "needing" a man and "wanting" a man. "Needy" women are often too desperate. And that, as you very well know, in the long run, can be a turn-off.

Excuse me, ABM, Renata, everywhere here...

but I

LOVE/NEED/and WANT men as the song goes.

Moonsigns is being OVERLY didactic.

WOMANISTS have to be woman enough to become more plausible.

This is an ECO-System.

We do need men.

Male and Female need each other like the earth needs Sun and Moon.

And as Crazy, Insane and Infuriatingly difficult as I seem to be....

....it's my BARE TRUTH and vulnerability and ability to cry to men and tell them what I need

...that has gotten me whatever I wanted.

I have a lot of SOCIAL issues with men, because I feel that I am VERY WISE and therefore responsible for shaping the entire society (the village as it were)....

...BUT IN MY PERSONAL LIFE--once I became a WOMANIST.....I have been very loved and appreciated and protected by men...because I never denied (to myself) that I needed them, and because I WANTED them

...and because, in my deepest part, I LOVED them.

Much of my rage/vitriol is because I Love men so deeply. Not because I hate them.

And this is an ECO-SYSTEM. We "NEED" each other. And if Black women, especially, are not going to face up to that....then it's going to be very hard to build the "structures" that are necessary to form BONDING, meaningful unity.

The woman is the one who MAKES the "seed" that is to be planted.

I feel that it's very destructive that FEMINISTS constantly put this message in the universe and into the heads of girls that---men are not there for us----so we don't need men.

We need more WOMANISM:

"if men are not there for us...then we give birth to a set of new men who WILL be."

Women hold the power--but have to stop being selfish and think of the generations of girls to come AFTER them.

BLACK WOMEN....Forget about our own lifetime, and plant the seed for a better situation tomorrow.

I would rather say: "we don't need abusive men; we don't need selfish men--but we need men."

So, it's NOT because I'm weak or needy as Moonsigns is portraying.

I am very capable, powerful, loving, hateful and downright...diabolical.

I am a natural woman.

I come from dirt and water and OUTDOORS.

It's HEALTHY for me to acknowledge that I need a man.

Admitting a need is a sign of strength. Those who won't admit a need are the weak ones, because they're ashamed to admit their truth, for fear of what others may think. I'm not saying anything against you for saying you need men. I'm just saying, what I think are the reasons so many feel they don't need men.

I personally feel that I need a man, if only to feel more like a woman (being the prissy, overtly feminine type that I am). As a single woman, I had to stand/walk often, hardening my feet and my legs; work all day with no time to pamper myself; push myself in my workplace to get to be as self-sufficient as men are, and then come home and not have the energy to do anything.

With a man in my life, I have more time to cook and clean (which I actually like to do), and can sit in the tub for hours brushing my hair, take care of my baby full time, and persue my own interests while knowing everything is taken care of (I put my nose in often enough just to make sure that's so).

Kola,

I agree.

This whole notion of women not needing men (and vice versa) is ludicrous, feminist BULLSHIT. Always has been. Always will be.

Can one woman survive without a man? Sure. But can all of womanhood do so. Hellfuhkinaw!

There is a REASON why both a male and a female were created. And it wasn't just for procreation.

We were created as halves to form a greater, more beautiful and productive whole. And until both men and women (especially BLACKS) understand and appreciate that, we'll continue to descend into a state social, moral and even physiological estrangement, decay and dread.

HEY RENATA :-), what I meant...

....is that to make babies, to create safe environments and to foster an atmosphere of duality.....I NEED MEN.

If I had to stand alone and be strong---I could definitely do it.

But that's not necessary. I can be strong WITH and be with my natural mate---and there's no shame in that.

I feel that we, as Black women, especially--MANY OF WHOM ARE ALONE, BECAUSE...there's no good men-----need to give birth to the men that we need.

The WOMB and Woman's Will is the power.

And I agree with ABM's statement:

We were created as halves to form a greater, more beautiful and productive whole. And until both men and women (especially BLACKS) understand and appreciate that, we'll continue to descend into a state social, moral and even physiological estrangement, decay and dread.

Well, for woman who can compartmentalize their life, the need for a man may be minimal. There are a lot of women whose worlds don't revolve around men because they have varied interests and full lives. So a man can really just be reduced to a booty call category. If I was a young lady out there in the mix today, instead of a someone who grew up during an era when a woman's goal in life was expected to be to get married and have children and be a good housekeeper, I would certainly be independent.I agree that you can't live with a man and you can't live without one but a fully committed relationship wouldn't necesssarily be my goal.

Cynique,

The New York Times recently did an article on how there are all these White women with Harvard MBA's, law degrees, etc. who are forgoing high paying jobs, expense accounts, etc. to become mommies and housewives.

Maybe they discovered the freewheeling, "booty call", "varied interests" life is NOT quite what it appear cracked up to be.

Yes, ABM, the feminist movement did backfire because it was taken over by the femi-nazis. But, there are still large numbers of frustrated, unfulfilled married-with-children women out there who long for something in life other than diapers and soccer games and uncommunicative husbands from the "slam, bang, thank you maam" school of sex.

You don't have to be married to get hooked up with a uncommunicative man, "slam, bang, thank you maam" man. In fact, the longer you're single, the MORE you'll likely to encounter such.

Somebody, please---

where are all these men who can't fuck?

Honestly, I'm not trying to be snide.

I believe they exist.

But almost every man I've ever had---abusive assholes included---could sling, lay pipe OR EAT a woman to nirvana. SOME could do all 3.

Not being "anti-woman"....but is some of it the female not sparking the man's imagination and not getting him excited?

JUST ASKING--don't beat me.

'Cause I often fantasized about having what I perceive to be the luxury of a "quickie".

Men don't fuck like that.
They nut in your titties.
Squeeze, sculpt and slap your ass.
Lick you ALL OVER.
Stick it in one hole...finger the other.
Take it out, stick it over here.
Turn you over.
Lift you up.
Hit it sideways.
Put you up on the wall.
Put you under the steering wheel or dashboard.

And they're all like that. Gymnasts and shit.

A LOT of these whiny chicks would be quite (unpleasantly) surprised to discover how great of a dyckjob their men can lay down...WHEN they happen upon the kind of woman who can bring the gunslinger out of a mofo.

I think maybe "religion" in some of our communities impedes women's ability to be go deeper with their sexual desires?

Again---I am not an expert. Just wondering.

Also, a lot of women don't feel attractive. Which makes it hard to be seductive and adventurous.

I'm not sure. I could be totally off base.

I just especially find AMERICAN MEN to be gladiators in bed.

Kola,

Your "a lot of women don't feel attractive" is a huge part of the sex issue in America. Fortunes are made telling women how ugly they are.

So you have all these neurotic chicks too scared to even fuhk with the light on, much know whether/how to stroke their clits.

Then they have the audacity TOTALLY blame their failure to achieve an orgasm on the men. And those men get frustrated and run into some superfreak who's dealing it to him so righteous chicks got him believing he's the thunder god THOR.

The wives who feel unfulfilled are not necesssarily frigid or inhibited or are their men incapable of being good lovers. It's that these women desire the romance and the excitement that is lacking in their dull marriages and rountine lives. How do I know all of this? How do you think? From occasionally checkin out the shows of Oprah and her hill-billy cousin Dr. Phil, and by reading all of the gloomy letters written to the newspaper advice columns. LOL.
