American Africans in Ghana: Black Expatriates and the Civil Rights Era by historian Kevin K. Gaines. Another interesting bit of history that examines the role of African American, as well as West Indian, expatriates in Ghana after Ghana gained its independence in 1957. This book, among many, illustrate some of the difficulities of creating a truly independent country as well as how blacks from the "new world" attempted to assist Nkrumah and how they themselves were shaped by African politicsm, Cold War Politics, and the Civil Rights movement.
