When Harlemite Troy Johnson launched a website dedicated to Black books nearly eight years ago, it came out of “a passion for Black people,” he said.
Today, Johnson’s African American Literary Book Club (aalbc.com) is a virtual watering hole for Black booklovers and has been called the most popular website dedicated to African-American literature.

Troy Johnson - You are amazing. And you know, if you weren't a born entrepreneur, there are plenty of books on the subject. You CAN learn. But honestly, I think you are one already, you just don't know it yet

Thanks Mzuri an Cynique. The Amsterdam is my hometown newspaper so I was really proud of the recognition.

I forgot to mention the author of the article is TANANGACHI MFUNI she is a staff writer for the Amsterdam News.

The photographer, Karl Crutchfield, is well known in the Harlem community. He has many coffee table books worth of photographs -- I'm sure.

Nice story, Troy! So, what is the "next level" for aalbc.com mentioned in the piece? Inquiring minds want to know!

Troy

You should be so proud of yourself - for sticking to it and bringing together the literate threads of African people -- even though I do not agree with some of the more salacious folks on the board - it broadens my horizons and makes me consider for a second another perspective - that is growth and progress -- KUDOS

peace

Troy Johnson is a visionary. I wonder if he had any idea (back in 1998) that his website would be such a monumental success.

Nice work Troy. I can testify that advertising on this site sent me lots of traffic and sales. Keep up the good work.

Thanks everyone.

I'm glad the adertising worked for you Emanuel.

Yvettep, There are so many things, but I will say that recently efforts to work with other entities are beginning to come together.

These are long term efforts, that may take a while to bear fruit, but in the end the results will be superior.
