Please Support My Book!!

Hello, my name is Matthew Lynch and I am the author of Closing the Racial Academic Achievement Gap. My book is being published by African American Images and will be officially available for purchase on March 19, 2006.
I am currently an Exceptional Education Teacher at Sykes Elementary in the Jackson Public Schools District (Mississippi) and a Doctoral candidate at Jackson State University majoring in Early Childhood Education, with a cognate in Administration.
The following is a brief summary of my book:
With the arrival of the No Child Left Behind act, the so-called "racial achievement gap" has attracted more concern and controversy than ever before. In my book, I posit that the myth of the racial achievement gap has nothing to do with genetics—and everything to do a host of embarrassing yet reversible social and pedagogical failures, including low teacher expectations, unrealistic time tables for learning goals, irrelevant curricula, ineffectual teaching methods, careless administrators, poor parental involvement, negative peer groups, and self-esteem issues. For every problem raised, my book offers level-headed solutions, culminating in a plan for closing the supposed racial achievement gap for good.
Thank You in Advance,
Matthew Lynch

I'm going to bite on this one. I am not an educator but I have subbed a lot in the Richmond County school district in Georgia. What I have found is that a great percentage of the time the Teachers are ill-prepared (mentally) and ill-equipped socially to handle the children placed in their classrooms. I've seen very bright but troubled children get placed in "Special needs" classrooms simply because the teacher did not want to or could not deal with them. Now this is not a knock on teachers; we need as many of them as we can get. But you can't take a middle class white female and place her in a classroom full of inner city or income challenged children and expect them to be able to cope with the unique situations that cause these children to act out at times. Drugs and an ADHD lable are not the answer. Cultural training for the uninformed is a start, and then some patience and understanding along with a firm touch (demeanor)
just my two cents.
