Ferociouskitty did you use this button  on the upper right hand side to "tweet this"? I'm just curious. on the new site design I changed the Icon hoping it would be noticed more Cynique, at the risk of usurping you cynicism, I honestly do not think there is anything we can do, short of taking away everyone liberties and using draconian methods of enforcement. Things are really just too out of hand to bring back to normal without utilizing drastic tactics -- which is not likely to happen. One of the consequences of living in a heterogeneous society. Sad to witness. | ||

Troy, I didn't notice the button. That said, I tend not to use those buttons even when I do see them on sites, mainly because I have two Twitter accounts (one personal and one for my co-parenting site), and I never know which one I'm logged into. Tweet Deck allows me to choose which one I want to tweet from; not sure if the buttons do that. | ||

I think they can be saved, but of course i am a single mother raising a boy, and facing much of the same troubles that are spoken of in this film. I say they can be saved if men, all men, not just their fathers stepped up and tried to reach out to these young men. I've seen this happen in one community in GA where crime was rampant, and the kids ran the streets. This particular Homeowners Association decided they wanted to take back their community and enlisted help from the local police and residents to be diligent in reporting crimes, reporting truancy. That was the first part, the second part of the equation began when they established a mentor group for the young men in the community. In the clubhouse they teach, train, and mentor the young men in the community. Since this has happened, crime is down, and almost non-existent in the area, also truancy is down. I was so proud of these men, who enlisted volunteers from the community to be involved in reclaiming their neighborhood and reclaiming the youths in this area. btw - my mom was also a single mother and raised 4 boys and 2 girls...but we also had grandfathers, uncles, and neighbors who helped to raise us all. | ||

Sisg, sure if what you say actually happens; (i.e. "...they can be saved if men, all men, not just their fathers stepped up and tried to reach out to these young men...). You don't even need all men to do this, maybe not even a majority, but alas I don't see this happening. Consider: if the majority of men (presumably) don't step up a take care of there own children; why, for heaven's sake, would we expect them to take care of or mentor someone else's child? Surely if they did they did we would not be in this predicament. The environment that raised our mom raised you all in my as well been on a different planet; the differences are so significant. I would LOVE to say things look promising. I know it was naive of me to think this, but Obama's presidency shows virtually no impact on reversing this disturbing trend. I try to be a good father to my children and a positive contributor to society in general. Most guys I know and socialize with do this as well. But we seem to be a dying breed... and have about the same impact as an Obama presidency. | ||

I try to be a good father to my children and a positive contributor to society in general. Most guys I know and socialize with do this as well. But we seem to be a dying breed... and have about the same impact as an Obama presidency. (This is the weird psychology of the Negro, which must have been implanted from Slavery, the idea of collective failure and responsibility. You hear no other creature on the planet moaning over the failure of somebody he doen't know thousands of miles away. You never heard the Jews say "All Jews are doomed" because they had crazy bad people in their group. Or Italians or Irish or anybody else. You sit up and take awards from people who messed up your mind. "We are a dying breed". Well, die then because you too weak. If we ain't saved it's because we are just what the white folks wanted us to turn out to be and stay. And that's a fact. Obama? He will do well to come out alive. In all of your bluster, your fail to offer any coherent reasons for your disagreement with what others have said, Chrishayden. Why would Blacks pattern themselves after the rest of the world? The uniqueness of their dilemma calls for them to reach out to each other from all over the country in order to make a concerted effort to save their sons. Each one needs to teach one. Why are black youth supposed to killing each other in the street??? And if thinking and acting in a mainstream way has gotten some off the street, why should this not be a blueprint to follow? Can you come up with a reason to reject this rationale other than that you hate Bill Cosby and his advocates? And you can fume and cringe all you want, but wanton breeding is what perpetuates a way of life that pits baby daddies against baby mommas who have grunted out kids who will grow up like weeds; nowhere to sprout but between the cracks of the streets. The White Power Structure does not control this. Birth control does. Condoms and shots and different attitudes could greatly improve this dead-end situation. You have handed white people more power than they posses. Sisgal cited what is possible when goals are set. Troy has noted what individuals can do. There's is nobody more effective than a strong black father figure. Older gang members evolve into this, and more and more they are advising young guys to put down the gun, and have been known to chastise anybody who shoots a young black athlete with chances of a earning a college scholarship. More of them need to be recruited to help turn things around. And in case you haven't noticed it many white people, themselves, are recognizing how dangerous the irrational hate and stupid strategies of the lunatic fringe of their race are. More and more of them of are realizing that this is not the way to go and that for the greater good and their ultimate survival, Americans are going to have to learn to co-exist. You explode on the board, slashing and scolding, Chrishayden, but when all is said and done you are no more credible than anybody else expressing an opinion around here. I know more about "the street" than you think I do. |
