There is a self-published book through iUniverse that at the time of this message was sitting at #90 on amazon.com, inside of the top 100. This book is about Michael Jackson and was published in 2007 by iUniverse. Why it is with iUniverse, I don't know. What I do know is if it was not available, the opportunity, as unfortunate as it was, would have been missed. Maybe a major publisher didn't bite or maybe the author didn't want to wait. http://www.amazon.com/Michael-Jackson-Conspiracy-Aphrodite-Jones/dp/0979549809/r ef=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247090384&sr=1-1 You never know what can happen. _________________ The Authors Guild http://DTPollard.com |

DT, I remember talk about this book BEFORE it was vanity published. No trade publishing house would touch it. Mind you, Aphrodite is not a new/unknown author. She's been previously published by HarperCollins. But she's been a steadfast MJ supporter going back to 1993 when the first young man's family made allegations against MJ. Let's face it: MJ has been treated in the media just as OJ has. Even in death, they still won't let up. Although the 1993 charges didn't hold water and he was acquitted on all 14 counts (10 felony charges and 4 misdemeanors) in his 2005 trial, the opinion held by many is that MJ is nonetheless guilty of these accusations. I personally feel that this opinion is largely fueled by a very biased media that has hit tabloid-bottom with the agenda to "bring this niggah down" no matter how they have to do it. Now, I'm not one to play the race card, but I'm not one to ignore it, either, when I believe it applies. Here, I believe it applies. The fact that a few of the lawyers who represented MJ in 1993 later went on to rep Simpson - and got OJ acquitted of murdering his White ex-wife and her White waiter boytoy - certainly didn't help matters when it came to MJ's 2005 trial. It's deplorable, really. Buy Aphrodite's book, y'all. Even if you're not an MJ fan, buy the book. It's a worthy read - that the trade publishing houses wouldn't touch - and for that I'm ashamed. This just isn't the way publishing and journalism are supposed to work. |

This shows that having other options available can allow some good work to surface outside of the mainstream. _________________ The Authors Guild http://DTPollard.com |
