Author D T Pollard demonstrates in real time the free amazon Kindle application for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch by downloading Kindle ebook content from amazon.com’s live website. As of March 2009 it was estimated that 17 million iPhones had been sold and an unknown exact number of iPod Touch units. The dedicated Kindle system costs hundreds of dollars, but this free application works well. This is one application that frees the book from paper and adds value to a popular platform.

I think that amazon did themselves well with the iPhone Kindle application. It allow the format to expand without cost on a popular platform. Once the content(books) have been invested in, then getting an actual Kindle is secondary. Once the iPhone spreads beyond AT&T, this thing could explode. More and more titles are being put in Kindle format.

Overall I prefer the Kindle for reading. However the iphone wroks quite nicely in a pinch for something to read. Also the kindle application is smart enough to keep track where you left off on either device. If I read 10 "pages" on the iphone the kindle location is automatically updated.
