Now the deathgrip they have on certain facets of American culture may loosen up

At one time I would have said that I was unfit to have any job at the Gray Lady that didn't involve a bucket and a mop

Makes me good to feel superior.

"Big stars are fallin, ain't long til the break of day!"

Yes, I never thought I'd live to see a black man in the white house, but I REALLY never thought I'd see the day that General Motors and Chrysler would be on the verge of going out of business or that newspapers like the Chicago Tribune and the NY Times would be in danger of disappearing from view.

The press and the auto industry used to be the pillars of America and now they are collapsing.

A Miss USA contestant dooms her chances of winning the crown by saying she doesn't believe in same sex marriage...Cigarettes have become Public Enemy No 1...Designer babies available on demand... Calls for marijuana to be legalized...global warming...

It's fascinating to have had this front row seat to history but it's also scary. Babylon...Rome...
The Promised Land...

Isn't it just fascinating?

The powerful...are losing their power.

It kind of gives me hope.

You might as well legalize marijuana and most other hard drugs (and license them) because that will kill the drug trade. This is one lesson America needs to learn after Prohibition.

Hey Y'all,

For believers who have been taught correctly this situation is no surprise - and most arm-chair and professionally trained historians it ain't nothing more than the same ole thing.

But you know me - the a follower of Christ and simple "Soul" Sister - I have to share II Timothy 3 (Amplified Bible). The God I serve gave everyone free will to accept or reject that choice is yours. I have to admit that the story of Christian history is steeped in perversion and twisted lies by those who used it fatten their coffers and subjugate people. But God is everlasting to everlasting and our ancestors in bondage to "Christian" master knew the truth and lived in that liberty. How much more should we be in seeking and living out truthful lives.

peace

soul sister

2 Timothy 3
1BUT UNDERSTAND this, that in the last days will come (set in) perilous times of great stress and trouble [hard to deal with and hard to bear].
2For people will be lovers of self and [utterly] self-centered, lovers of money and aroused by an inordinate [greedy] desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters. They will be abusive (blasphemous, scoffing), disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane.

3[They will be] without natural [human] affection (callous and inhuman), relentless (admitting of no truce or appeasement); [they will be] slanderers (false accusers, troublemakers), intemperate and loose in morals and conduct, uncontrolled and fierce, haters of good.

4[They will be] treacherous [betrayers], rash, [and] inflated with self-conceit. [They will be] lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God.

5For [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them].

6For among them are those who worm their way into homes and captivate silly and weak-natured and spiritually dwarfed women, loaded down with [the burden of their] sins [and easily] swayed and led away by various evil desires and seductive impulses.

8Now just as [a]Jannes and Jambres were hostile to and resisted Moses, so these men also are hostile to and oppose the Truth. They have depraved and distorted minds, and are reprobate and counterfeit and to be rejected as far as the faith is concerned.(A)

9But they will not get very far, for their rash folly will become obvious to everybody, as was that of those [magicians mentioned].

10Now you have closely observed and diligently followed my teaching, conduct, purpose in life, faith, patience, love, steadfastness,

13But wicked men and imposters will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and leading astray others and being deceived and led astray themselves.

14But as for you, continue to hold to the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced, knowing from whom you learned [them],

16Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action),

17So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

>>>>.......The Room Falls Quiet...........<<<<<

Lets do that again!

"The God I serve gave everyone free will to accept or reject that choice is yours"

Soul_Sister, it's always good to hear from you. I like what you said. Many believe God imposes harm upon us. That is not the case.

Is it wrong for a man that has not arrived or who has committed sins to speak of God?

I think not. If it were true, the rooms would forever remain quiet! If everyone on earth were led into a room by their indiscretions and sins, past and present, the voices of many would be silenced forever.

My DC librarian, I've been told never to take scripture out of it's context. Many believe it to be a slippery slope that is used by many to rationalize their evil ways. However, in this case, Soul_Sister, I believe you did well.

I like the book of Timothy because it was written to Timothy, by paul around 65 AD. There are few analogies in this book to debate or twist around.

Just the other day a person said they were starting to read the bible again. I said the following words:

I had to comment on this one. If others would do as you and read the entire bible for themselves, well ...I think we'd see a decrease in individuals taking the word out of context. Or at least we'd see less mindless debate.

I encourage you to pay attention to when each book was written and why it was written. Also it's important to know who wrote each book! I was like you. I didn't even know who put the bible together. I didn't know why they called one the Kings James version. If you really want to find real answers and insight, I've found it helpful to have various study guides ...different viewpoints, not arguing points. There are some with hundreds of contributors - Bible scholars, pastors and writers - who provide insightful answers to the most pressing questions about the word.

Even the span that the bible covers is eye opening. Jesus was only on this earth for a short period. I think it's important to look at the spirit of the bible and NEVER take a verse or srcipture out of it's context.

Just the other day I was in a bible study and some were trying to rationalize their gambling by referencing something on tithing. As ridiculous as this sounds, some try to find a wierd interpretation to justify their indiscretion.

My hat is off to you!

I wouldn't start in the middle of a book but, you go girl.

Yes, the "End of Days" looms on the horizon. This has been foretold down through the ages not only by the bible but by seers and prophets and astronomers of all persuasion, including Paganism, specifically in the Mayan calendar.

There is a consensus among both ancient and modern calculations that Doomsday will occur in the year 2012.

Carey, my beloved brother - if I could I would keep your sage and kind words for myself - Yes, there is a hint of selfishness - I am being sanctified.

Cynique, that is true most belief systems speak of an end of days/tribulation/transition period - no great surprise. Yes, there have been mystics within Christiandom who have said similiar things - I believe you are old enough to remember the Y2K thing -- heck we all got a bit itchy around that 12/31/99 - 11:58pm -- smile.

What a learned Christian would understand is that the end of time has been going on since the Garden of Eden. When Lucifer fell and man fell with disobedience the end was coming. No man knows the hour or the day - however, there are signs and wonders that puzzle us all.

thanks for the exchange of ideas - - that's why I remain - chilling in the shadows and staying close to my literate brothers & sisters -- peace

I guess Michiko Kakutani, the NYT's Literary Proctologist, will have to get a real job.

I hear rumblings that the NYT is considering going the Not for Profit route...

Soul_sister thanks for your comments and quote.
