Little new here (besides, at least to me--the revelation that the good Doctor has been married three times and has a OOW baby with a "Middle Eastern Sister"--at least he hasn't had the temerity to rail against Black men for not respecting the sanctity of marriage-- Little new. It seems this is an attempt by West to make his philosphy more accessible to the masses: He fails miserably by the way. He is just too deep, too intellectual. I dig West. I love hearing him speak. But anybody who I need to read with a dictionary and encyclopedia close at hand is only going to appeal to other intellectuals. He seems to have the West Coast idea that you can have it all--be hip as wellas intellectual, be black as well as universal, speak to the man on the corner as well as the ivory tower intellectual. He just proves it can't be done. What he needs is some popularizers that will take his message to the masses--though we know the confusion that this will lead to. | ||

What is rather amusing is how people just hang onto Cornel West's every word like he is a divine oracle. He could say that the fumes emanating from s h i t are not foul but that we have allowed ourselves to believe what our noses tell us instead of what our eyes see when they behold beautifully symetrical cylinders of turds, and upon hearing this his listeners would react with awe and nod their heads. CW always has coy little smile dancing around his mouth, as if he knows "what fools these mortals be." |
