Hello All,

I have been reading books like crazy. I'm still getting my library in order and have come across some wonderful finds. Before I started The Book of Night Women, I saw an American Masters program about Willa Cather. When the show was over, I thought I may have to check out a couple of Cather's books, then I remember that I had a copy of Cather's My Antonia. I picked it up and read through that bad boy real fast. What a beautiful little book. This leads me to my next discovery.

My copy of My Antonia is a First Edition Library copy. I can not remember how I came across this but many years ago I had subscribed to the First Edition Library Book of the Month Club. I can not remember what book enticed me to even do it. I got the introductory book and then another one. The price of the books was very affordable. The books were an exact replica of the first edition of the book. The book is the same size, with the same print, same book jacket with a hard cardboard book slip cover with a small information card that had a history of the author and the book, real nice. After the first two book, I get a huge box that had all of the books in it, including: My Antonia, Invisible Man, The Great Gatsby, Huckleberry Finn and a few others. Since I had not read any of the books, I made a vow that I was going to work my way through all of them.

I moved to my house and lost all of the information on how to get a hold of the company that made these books. Because they had a few more books that I would have loved to add to my collection like Native Son. I can not find them. After reading My Antonia I looked at the books and realized that I had read over 2/3 of the collection. I'm ready to add a few more titles so I go on the internet and can not get any information on the company. But what I did find out is that these books have become valuable, real valuable. These books that I bought for $20 is now going for $75-$100. Who knew that even the replicas would go up in value.

So, if any of you run across an ad or anything concerning subscribing to the First Edition Library Book of the Month Club, 1.) tell me about it so I can sign up on for it again, 2.) think about joining it. I love the books.

"Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Reading Marquez is such a challenge because there is way more narration than dialogue. I enjoyed the movie but could tell something was being left out so I went and got the book. I read "100 Years of Solitude" last year by the same author and enjoyed it.

Hey Yevettep, do want me to tell you about "revolutionary Road"? :-). Well, to start, lose the image of De caprio, I don't think he fits.

Carey, I am already finding that. I gotta ask: Did you eventually get into it? Right now all of the characters are working my nerves. It is possible for me to like a book without liking any of the characters but that is usually pretty rare.

I absolutely LOVED "A Mercy" BTW. There are not many books I feel like turning over and starting the whole thing again the moment I finished, but this was one of them.

LOL that is FUNNY, Ferociouskitty! Fresh off the heels of The Book of Night Women, I have started the new Cheever biography and absolutely love it.

I'm also back into my short stories and am reading an advance copy of Jay McInerney's new collection and will finish working my way through Victor Lavalle's Slapboxing with Jesus. I love Thomas Glave too!

Yvette, how did you like Revolutionary Road? I thought it was incredible. His short stories are even better; I INHALED that book.

I have a 30% off Borders coupon burning a hole in my pocket and I want to pick up The Stories of Vladimir Nabokov. Have any of y'all read that? After this, I am not buying ANY more books for a MONTH!!!! LOL

Ancestor Stones - Aminatta Forna

I just read "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coehlo, in one night. Granted, I was also coiling my hair, but it was an engaging read.

Nom, what did you think of "Slapboxing with Jesus"?

Lili, what did you think of "The Red Tent"?

"Angels and Demons" is a book of the "Da Vinci Code" variety, isn't it?

I want the world to know that I now have in my possession "The Book of Night Women".

And I expect to crack its covers - any week now.

Well, I'm about half way through the "Book of Night Women" and after I was finally able to get into the rhythm of the narrative, I'm sorta kinda liking the book so far.

You folks should've told me it was written in dialect!
