Kola: EVERYBODY loathed Diana Ross in her heydey, Mah....because she had LEFT "The Supremes"--betrayed Flo and Mary, because they felt she "acted white", because she "married a white man", because she "couldn't sing" (in comparison to what blacks were used to---there had never been a female singer like her in black music).

Mah: That much I knew. I'm just surprised BALDWIN was on that bandwagon. She just seemed like too much of an easy target for someone of his caliber to set his sights on.

Kola: James Baldwin, who really liked strong artists, Diana Ross was a "twit" with no depth, no grand voice and no real meaning to the black experience artistically. She was a POP ICON and "vulture". It wasn't until the film "Lady Sings" that he really truly looked at her....and he fell in love.

Mah: Gotta love a man who can admit to such.

Kola: You will find MANY young people who won't even accept the REAL Billie Holiday. They want to see Diana's version.

Mah: That's a shame because these two very different artists deserve their due.
