Cynique, you reminded me of something. Do you remember a few years ago when there was a haiku thread here, and someone (Chris Hayden maybe?) pointed out that haiku was more than just 5-7-5 verse? That, by definition, the poem also needed to have nature as its subject? I think that was here on these boards, but I'm not 100% sure.

At any rate, I remember thinking then that even if what we were playing around with wasn't "real" haiku, I still enjoyed the challenged of taking the 5-7-5 constraint and presenting a coherent thought within it. When my boyfriend and I were first dating, we spent a day corresponding via email using only the 5-7-5 constraint. Maybe some wouldn't call that haiku, but we called it lurve.

*cue nauseating Celine Dion music* LOLOLOL!
