Very true, Yvette! What I found amusing was Kam Williams' attempt to shock the audience by declaring that he agreed with the Reverend Wright's condemnation of America, a rant that was straight out of the 1960s. It was like all of Wright's tired rhetoric was something new and daring.
And people do tend to regard Cornel West as a sacro sanct black icon, probably because he is so adept at mesmerizing his admirers with those intellectual spiels that leave listeners lost in a maze of words.
Like you say, West is just a propped-up example of the resident black radical that all Ivy League colleges have scrambled to add to their faculties in order to give the impresssion that they promote academic freedom.
