I'm skeptical on this entire topic. First of all, I don't think acting is any great feat. I also feel that Black folks as a whole are overly involved in watching television and movies, going to movies and spending money on movies, when we have much more important real-life matters that require our attention. And our funds.
We could have already restored NOLA (or relocated/housed those affected) if we contributed our money to that cause instead of wasting it at the movies.
People seem to use television/movies as an escape from reality, while they are missing out on real experiences. And parents continue to use the television as babysitters.
Back to the actors - people like Vivica Fox, Shemar Moore and Terrence Howard aren't really that fascinating in their craft. I'm curious to know who the other nominees were. And when the NAACP gives an award to BET for something that aired back in 2005, it kind of makes me wonder who's in charge. Hopefully that's a typo.
And Jamie Foxx - Whatta joke. Here he is pouring liquor down some woman's throat. I don't care what he does in private, but this is the way he conducts himself in public with photographers around. Is this his idea of how to treat a lady with dignity and respect??? And is that the NAACP's idea of the personification of the "ideals of civil and human rights"???
That's why the Black community is in shambles now. We worship and present "awards" to people who don't deserve diddly squat from the community.
The NAACP needs to present more relevant awards for such achievements as humanitarianism, volunteerism, entrepreneurism, philanthropy, teacher of the year, doctor of the year, etc. Recognize the people in professions who are really making a difference.
These acting, singing and dancing awards are a bunch of fluff.
Did I mention that I'm skeptical???
