Afroamerican: I guess my perspective is just different because I see BLACK people...it doesn't matter what culture they come from. As long as we're on the same page politically and spiritually, I will be ok with them. Culture does not necessarily dictate sociopolitical views. This is the reason why, although I'm an Americanized African person, I could identify with a Jamaican Marcus Garvey over an African American Martin Luther King. (Of course, I'm just referring to their general perceived public/political personas.) You are right when you say that we need to establish our own guidelines about "Black/African" so that outsiders are not allowed to unjustly take advantage, but I would be extremely cautious about closing the door on the worldwide community of our sistren and brethren. I maintain...we need each other. |
